Man shoots at teens vandilizing McCain signs
« on: November 01, 2008, 04:58:27 PM »
Found this on the Smoking Gun, if gunowners keep this up, we won't be able to defend our 2nd Amendment rights. Here is the link to the story, complete with 3 page police report. http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2008/1028081mccain1.html

OCTOBER 28--Angered that two neighborhood teenagers knocked over a John McCain sign on his lawn, an Ohio man allegedly grabbed a rifle and fired three times at the duo as they sought to drive away from his Warren Township home. Kenneth Rowles, 50, was charged with felonious assault in connection with the Saturday afternoon incident, which resulted in one boy suffering a minor bullet wound. According to a Warren Township Police Department report, Patrick Wise, 16, yelled, "This is for Obama" as he knocked over the McCain sign. Wise's cousin, Kyree Flowers, 17, was waiting in the passenger seat of the SUV, which was struck by three bullets fired by Rowles. One bullet hit Flowers in the arm, while another shattered the passenger's and driver's side windows. Rowles, pictured in the above mug shot, claimed in a police interview that he "shot three times attempting to scare the subjects." Shortly after the October 25 confrontation, Rowles called police to complain about two instances in which his McCain signs had been vandalized, but never bothered to mention that he had, minutes earlier, fired at a vehicle carrying Wise and Flowers. As Officer Daniel Peterson was getting into his squad car to leave, Rowles stopped him to ask about a new Ohio law allowing homeowners to protect their property. "I told him that it would be stupid for someone to get shot or injured over an election sign and he agreed," Peterson wrote in his report, which you'll find below. Police seized 11 long guns and four pistols from Rowles's home, and recovered two spent .22-caliber shell casings from his driveway. If convicted of the assault charge, Rowles faces up to eight years in prison.

Ugh!  Use a little common sense here people.  Lets see, I'm a gun owner showing my support for a candidate that will maintain my right to enjoy firearms and shooting by placing his sign in my yard.  A couple stupid teenagers want to vandalize said sign, so I decide the best course of action is to subject myself to felony charges and foreit these rights by firing at the vandals.   ???  I'm surprised he hit anything since his vision was obviously impaired by the fact his head was firmly lodged within is rectum.   :-[  I guess both sides of the 2A battle have their "pearls", but this guy... MORON.

Smacking my forehead with my palm....

"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

Okay.. I agree....it doesn't help our cause.. but..................
dammit.. it is private personal property..

in my opinion.. you come on my property.. vandalize and try to tear up or steal my shit and I'm gonna shoot ya..

sends a message..
might classify me in the Moron section...but why would anyone have to set back and put up with that? No matter if it is your car.. your signs..your tools .....whatever.. It is YOURS! That means you.. can... not... come... in ...and.... take... it... or ...tear... it... up.
Simple as that!

But the message we continually  send is:

We as gun owners have the right to protect ourselves and what is ours.. but only if it is approved and doesn't interfere with the little scumbag thugs who roam the streets having free reign over anything that they want to. And they know it. That is why nothing is sacred anymore.

It was in HIS yard.. it was HIS signs and those kids (adults) had no right to be in there tearing them up.

Let them think that they might get their little worthless asses shot if they come on someone's property again..and they MIGHT give it a second thought.  >:(

Okay.I'm done. :-X

The LAW is SUPPOSED to be the method of dealing with such situations.
But when the law is ineffectual, or protects the offenders ??????

How big an issue in terms of Rights would this be if he had used a bat, knife, willow branch, shovel, car or garden hose?  He used a gun, and now it is a whole different crime.  Same idea as "hate" crimes - When an likeness of Mrs. Palin was hung from a noose it was just a Halloween decoration, but when Mr. Obama's likeness was treated the same it was a hate crime  ???

We need to be extra careful both because of what we are up against and because it is the right thing to do ... BUT  IT  STILL SUCKS !!!

if he used a bat, knife, willow branch, shovel, or car it would still be assult with a deadly weapon.   if he had used the hose, he would have been fine...

Shooting some one over something like a political sign is way over the line.  I mean we are talking about something that is basicly worthless.  Something liike a car, or live stock I can understand.

True, but it would not get near the attention that the gun will get.

I say he should have hooked up the signs to the electric dog fence like the guy did in Chapel Hill, NC.  :o He also had a video camera recording the sign, some kid came up and went to switch out a McCain sign with an Obama sign, as soon as he touched the frame, he got a good jolt! No-one was seriously hurt, and I bet the kid won't try that again.

I don't think the signs were worth shooting someone over, yes they were his and on his property, but no-one was hurt or threatened. If it bothered him that much, set up a camera and turn the tape over to police. Using a firearm is such a giant responsibility and everytime a gun-owner does something stupid, it hurts all of us.
