Strange (to me) "bullet".
« on: November 02, 2008, 09:38:15 PM »
Just wondering if anyone could tell me what is up with shell my 7 year old found laying around a pond we were fishing at? I am not familiar with it and I'm sure someone could educate me. As much as I am capable of being educated anyway.  ;)

I hope this works and I can get these pic uploaded!

Can't really see the stampings on the head, but it does appear to be a dummy round. I see the primer has been hit and there's a hole that could really only be drilled into it purposefully, so more likely than not, you've got a dummy round used for dry-fire practice.

The headstamp says CCI 4 9mm LUGER and a symbol I can't identify.

So obviously its a CCI 9mm but beyond that I'm stumped.

P.S. my google-fu is strong, but it availed me not.

CCI N R 9mm Luger - it's a Blazer casing.

N R stands for non reloadable. It looks like a home-made snap cap, although I have vague memories (I'm getting old, lol) of a button bullet with a laser or light in it for aligning the sights.

I'll try to check on the latter.

Take a look at this site - some really weird bullets in 9mm here, including 'high explosive":

Anti: I think some of you gentleman would choose to apply a gun shaped remedy to any problem or potential problem that presented itself? Your reverance (sic) for firearms is maintained with an almost religious zeal. The mind boggles! it really does...

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.

could be a "bird launching" Blank used by retriever trainers to launch the dummy birds for the young dogs to retrieve, It gets them used to a gun going off and throws the dummy bird father out than by hand.

Hey, I think you might be on to something. It was found at a lake where they are known to have dog trials from time to time.  8)

A blank with a bullet in it?  ???  I''ve seen a lot of Blazer ammo and none had a bullet like that and none were blanks. I don't think it came from the factory that way. My best guess is it's a home-made dummy round.
