Election Turnout ???

QUICK QUESTION:

Was this the largest, most energized election ever?  Was this the largest turnout?

I can't seem to put my fingers on the national numbers, maybe someone will post a link.

Now I live in very republican Cobb County, Ga and we certainly can't use that as a base for projecting state or national numbers, but I wonder how this holds up nationwide?  Here are the percentage of registered voters casting ballots.

1992 --  80%
1996 --  65%
2000 --  75%
2004 --  83%
2008 --  72%

This year only surpassed 1996!   

I'll try to find the numbers this weekend.   Also the % of adult population, not just registered voters

I haven't found all the exact numbers yet, but Minnesota's voter turn out numbers have been climbing every election for several years.  I'm sure that within a few days we will have the exact numbers, especially since we have a recount going on  (only 475 votes separating a jerk of a comedian from the incumbant).  They have been saying it was another record turn out though.  Too bad we are historically a Blue State.

National voter turnout preliminary numbers are around 64%.  that number will probably go up slightly. Highest since 1960.

And the stock market had the largest drop on a post election day in history.

Many voted early & then voted again - mostly inner city around the US. I won't say which candidate pushed this, but we all know who came from the Mayor Daley area. The fix was in place & is working & he still is not eligible to be President until he proves it -

Not only is voting a Right, but it is a responsibility.  Also, anything worth doing, is worth doing right, and it takes effort to do the right thing.  All that is said to say, I believe voting should be done in person on election day when ever possible.  There is a place for absentee ballots, and I do not believe they are a major issue for fraud.  However, early voting and polling place registration are just an invitation for fraud.  Then you throw in this idea that all you need is a utility bill, rent contract or verification by a registered voter to get you registered at the polling place.  The system needs fixing, and I'm sorry, but I believe we need to make it more difficult rather than easier.

Agreed - it's time to fix it now - on the other hand, who will listen? Not the Democrats - they got they wanted. We need to initiate fixing it ourselves. Any ideas - I assume it would take at a minimum new laws if not a constitutional amendment.

Actually voting is NOT a right. It is a privilege granted if you meet your states criteria, the Constitution only says that you can not be denied the privilege due to Race gender etc. Felons are denied the vote, as were welfare recipients until about 60 years ago. After the revolution voting was reserved  to land owners.
