Glock interchangable backstraps

Robar is making Glock replacement frames with interchangeable backstraps to give Glocks a 1911 style grip angle. Prices start at $319:

The alloy frame enables you to tailor the backstrap grip angle of the pistol to suit the size and shape of your hand. Thanks to the unique interchangeable backstrap insert, you have a choice between the arched backstrap of a conventional-style grip, or the flat backstrap insert for a straight 1911-style grip angle. The insert is easily changed out with simple tools in a matter of minutes. The conventional arched insert is supplied as standard will all frames. The straight 1911-style insert is available as an option.

CHOICE OF ARCHED OR OPTIONAL FLAT BACKSTRAP INSERT:

They sell the backstrap insert for about $12.... I would bet that a good gunsmith could make the alterations necessary to an OEM Glock frame so that it would accept the 1911 style backstrap.

The robar guns use the CCF Raceframe.  The stock Glock frame would be a pain to get the backstraps from the CCF frame to fit.  The gallery section of CCF's site has a couple pictures of the rail that the bacstraps pin into.

You'd need to fill the frame gap then cut out most of it to get the rail the backstrap slides on.  I don't think it would be any cheaper than just ordering the Raceframe.

The CCF frames have had problems (sometimes) and require (usually) a good smith like Robar to make them work well.  I have inside info that a new frame will be coming out next month hopefully that will do away with most if not all problems.

I looked at the pics.... I didnt realize there was that channel down the center, so you are prob right. Any gunsmith would have a hard time modifying a frame to fit that -- although you could prob just chop the frame and use some kinda of industrial epoxy to permanently affix it (we are talking about plastic after all  ;D ).

Still, the replacement frame is an option for those out there that hate the Glock grip angle, but still want the extreme reliability of the Glock...... however, it quickly takes a $500 gun and turns it into a $850 gun.

I ought to email Glock with the pictures and bitch and complain about why this is not a factory option..... But I'd probably just get a canned "Glock perfection" response from them.

The Glock is fine the way it is.  If you don't like it, buy the XD, which is also fine the way it is.  Except for the 1911, everything else is BS.

Lone Wolf Dist is going to be offering a Glock replacement frame with interchangeable backstraps in February 2009.

http://lonewolfdist.com/

They will have two backstraps -- 1911 style and palm swell

They have not listed it on their website yet (I saw it in their newest mailer), so no clue what the price will be..... however, their replacement slides, barrels, and other Lone Wolf brand parts are pretty reasonable and high quality.
