« on: November 22, 2008, 07:34:31 PM »
I have just recentley purchased a 597 and i really enjoy shooting it and its pretty accurate.  So i just pretty much wanted to know everyone elses thoughts on them and if there are any after market parts i should look into.  Any info on the gun will be valuable, good or bad.

I have a 597, and like it a lot. Seems like a good, accurate, reliable plinker that won't break the bank.

Dick's SG has an OD Green 597 w/3-9x32 scope mounted and bore sighted for $169.98 w/$20 mail in rebate...is that a good deal?  Is the scope any good?  They don't say the brand of the scope.  Would the 10/22 be better at about $170 (open sights only)?

Richard

PS:  I might be able to get an additional $20 off but I might not be able to combine offers.

I have to admit a little 10/22 favoritism, but I am not a fan of the recent changes to Rugers product. The 597 takes a back seat as the aftermarket is limited, but the rifle is better to start with. Here is one I Addictized. Powder coated Lollipop blue, aftermarket hammer and custom bolt handle. Thumbhole stock was woodland camo laminate finished with navy tinted tung oil. Nice rifle!
