A New Wrinkle in Nazi Jersey
« on: November 24, 2008, 12:49:44 PM »
Yeah, I know, I live in Jersey and that's my fault, but until I can sell out and get out of here I'm stuck. We've already got CRAZY gun laws, handgun restrictions in particular, but it just got worse.

In NJ to buy a handgun you have to have a firearms ID card, which I have. You then must request a pistol purchase application for each handgun you wish to buy. Then when you buy a handgun, you present the application which they fill out, and then they do a NCIS (sic) check to make sure you have committed no crimes nor gone insane since your last purchase. In NJ they can't call the free FBI line...they have to go through our state police, which is a $16 charge.
I was in my local PD (where I am well known) to get a small mixup on my FID card fixed. They had one number wrong on my street address. Dealers would occasionally comment on it, but the other day a guy at Dick's refused to sell me a brick of 22LR because of it so I figured, "Better get it straightened out".

So I get it straightened out, and I say, "Hey, while I"m here, how about two pistol permits". Usually they say "Sure!" , fill them out, the chief signs them, and I"m on my way. Not today.

NJ and our illustrious democrat govorner, Jon Corzine, never miss a trick when it comes to charging more fees. NOW there is a form the applicant must sign that the PD has to send in requesting a background check on the applicant, and a form approving that they can look into my mental history. PLUS it must be accompanied by a money order (no cash or personal checks) for $18. When they get approval, I get my permits. THEN I guess when I go to the dealer and buy, I still have to pay $16 for a NCIS check.
THAT is how they will get us folks...they'll make it so difficult and so expensive, only wealthy democrats will be able to own and shoot firearms.

Sorry to hear about all the BS and how it continues to pile higher and higher.

I agree with your assessment of the difficulties and fees.  I believe that is the idea behind "licensing."  The idea that you will need to license your firearms just like you do a boat or snowmobile (for you southerners - kinda like a four wheeler except with two skis on the front and a caterpillar track under the rear for riding over white fluffy water we get when it is winter up here).  My small boats are $39 for three years, but the fees go up as you get bigger.  Think of the fee structure for different guns  ???

I took the time to email the governer. They'll probably be here to round me up in the next day or two.

Dear Governor Corzine,
I am a firearm owner. Today I went to get a purchase permit for a handgun and found that there are now MORE restrictive steps and costs associated with my legal, constitutional right to own a firearm.

There are now two forms that must be submitted to the local PD that record my agreement to allow a background check AND mental health background check prior to the issuance of the pistol purchase permit. AND an $18 fee to the state police is required in addition to the costs of the permit.
My background and mental stability were vetted in the process of acquiring a firearms ID card, but now I must pay for repeated checks upon every purpose. That is ludicrous. AND this cost and investigation is in ADDITION to the telephone check (at a cost of $16) that the dealer must make to the state police upon the purchase of a handgun. That is TWO background checks on ME for each handgun purchase. Meanwhile not ONE weapon has been removed from the possession of criminals, not ONE less crime committed, nor any relief from the rampant gang activity that plagues our state.
I respectfully suggest that you and your administration stop penalizing upstanding citizens for excercising their constitutional rights and focus your efforts on attacking and eliminating criminal groups and behaviour, and finance your insatiable appetite for revenue by confiscating the assets of the criminal gangs.

This is just one more TAX on the citizens and one more slap in the face of law abiding firearm owners.

Jay, Corzine probably forwarded that to the new Head of the Civilian Defense Force. Let us know what the uniforms look like.

I left Jersey years ago. It was insane then, but it's apparently getting ready to check itself in for evaluation.  Next thing you know, they'll add a new law making the additional checks necessary after the  issue of your permit. And since your permit can't be issued until you get the new checks...

Oh, btw -what happened to the banning of .50 cal and greater  rifles? That was aimed at the Barrett, but obviously would make almost all black powder rifles illegal.
Anti: I think some of you gentleman would choose to apply a gun shaped remedy to any problem or potential problem that presented itself? Your reverance (sic) for firearms is maintained with an almost religious zeal. The mind boggles! it really does...

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.

Interpretation in Minnesota is 12 ga and 20 ga shotguns as well.  At first they said only rifled barrels, but then they told Department of Natural Resources they were going to reconsider smooth barrel as well due to the availability of rifled slugs for greater accuracy.

Wait until they start making you go to a psychiatrist BEFORE you purchase a firearm. The American Psychiatric Association defines mental illness in American. Then all the APA has to do is define "shooters syndrome" as an inclination to violent behavior. Bingo. No more shooters overnite. The APA is as radical as you can get. I don't put it past them. Everyone is SOOO happy about Heller, but don't realize how much ground has been lost already. The Anti's are going to run circles around the NRA and pro gun groups.

NJ is bad but take a look at the fees for Nassau County NY.
$200 processing fee
$94.25 fingerprint fee

Personal Interview (make sure you say the right things !)
4 personal references outside of family

Then this is right off the PD website

Pistol Licenses will be processed as quickly as possible. Present waiting time is 6 months.
We will send you notice as soon as your license is ready.
PLEASE DO NOT CALL

Take away the anti's talking points of "common sense" and "reasonable," and please try and explain to the rest of this how all these requirements, fees and time frames are not an "infringement.

All of these regulations remind me of what was done in the South in the 1960's to keep blacks from voting. I think some lawsuits need to filed and some pro-gun legislators (if there are any in NJ and MN) need to be elected.

If all fails, come to Florida where I am at. I live in the "Wild West" here, where "blood runs in the street" everyday, and it's mayhem and pandemonium by the hour. And, this is for you TAB, you can shoot and own full auto weapons. An experience almost as good as sex! Oh yes, we have no state income tax either..... ;D
