YES, but anything above the horizontal part can be cut off.

Me thinks you just like the sound of grinding metal in the morning.  :)

Brownells has a front sight block for knocking the pins out with a punch.  I don't see any other tool.  The YHM sight is a bolt on w/block in it.  After beating the crap out of the pin on my $65.00 Norinco SKS's  hand guard, I'm champing at the bit to smash the sight pins on a $1,000 piece of  Mercan Ingenuity.   :o

The pins are tapered so they only come out one way. If you go the wrong way and hit them hard enough they will enlarge the holes and go in deeper.  :-[  It's not a good idea to work on guns at 3 a.m. like I sometimes do.

Frank, it is unnerving taking advice from you with that picture on your posts!

I'm just saying . . . .

I wish I could post a picture of myself. I have an old one where I have a beer in one hand and my eyes are rolled back in my head.

The block has a well marked 'in' and 'out' side. Brownells clearly took the 3 a.m. jumbofrank factor into account.

Better have a new gas block handy cuz when you take the sight off you will have a $1000 club.
Cut the two legs of the sight, file sand, refinish.

And maybe put a free float tube over it. A rifle length two-piece tube will fit over the carbine barrel just as easy as a carbine length tube will. I got mine from Brownells.

I just ordered the Brownell's front sight tool so I can change out my front sight (ordered by mistake instead of the no-sight option) - just punch 2 pins out and replace with a new YHM folder front sight to get it out of the way of the optics. Best of both worlds, Haz.

And for God's sake, use a Dremel, not a hacksaw!!   ;D

Wouldn't do me much good as my carry handle does not remove.

I'd have a $1000 charger action.

Hows this for nice?:

Strength & Appearance Of Standard Sight; Folds Down When Not Needed

Integral gas block and folding front sight replicates the strength and appearance of the classic factory AR-15/M16 front sight tower, yet folds neatly out of the way when it’s not needed. Patent-pending, weight-saving, all-in-one design; no need to purchase a railed gas block and a separate rail-mount folding sight. Deploys and locks securely open with the flick of a finger—as fast as any flip-up combat sight. To fold, press straight down on the top of the diagonal rear support to release the lock while pulling back on the sight tower. Standard, A2-type sight post is the same height as factory post, so it works with any factory height rear sight. Easy to install; dual clamping rings fit standard .750" diameter barrels, and hex-head bolts (hex wrench included) provide plenty of clamping force to make sure the sight doesn’t shift and change point of aim. Base/gas block of rugged, precision machined steel provides exceptional strength and resistance to erosion by hot gases. Includes bayonet lug, and rear clamping ring drilled to accept sling swivel pin. Aluminum sight post minimizes weight while still providing plenty of strength. Uniform, black finish matches most factory gun finishes.

SPECS: Steel and aluminum, matte black finish. Fits barrels that are .750” O.D. at the gas port.

As long as you have the gas block you are all set.
