Quote about the 2000 report in Living with the AR15  by Robert H. Boatman

Quote
Unfortunately for the English people, they have been persuaded by their own far-left government and insidious anti-gun activists to allow the English Bill of Rights to be, as they might say, shat upon. Today, the English do not have the right to keep and bear arms for self-preservation and defense. As a direct result, they live in a crime-ridden society that grows worse with each passing day.

The recent 2000 International Crime Victims Survey published by the Dutch Ministry of Justice, a highly respected and accurate measurement of the percentage of people by nation who are victims of violent crimes, ranked England far ahead of the United States (which ranked 8th), and second only to Australia (where English-style anti-gun laws are also in effect) as the most violent nation. A recently disarmed England now has twice as much violent crime as the United States.

The English Home Office, which cooperated in the survey, has refused to publish these findings in England. It’s better not to remind the gullible subjects how empty were the promises of safety and security for which they so eagerly traded away their very real and priceless freedoms and responsibilities.
Anti: I think some of you gentleman would choose to apply a gun shaped remedy to any problem or potential problem that presented itself? Your reverance (sic) for firearms is maintained with an almost religious zeal. The mind boggles! it really does...

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.

Sweet, Sydney did not miss out

glad I moved out of there.......
Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them

Thanks for the link, have been going through the report. There is a LOT of useful data in the report and on the graphs. Some of the outliers on their graphs tell a pretty interesting story. The personally being affected by drug abuse section/graph was extremely interesting. New York's (and the USA's) rape rate is truly third worldish (we should be able to use politically to call for longer sentencing/more emphasis on specialized units/prevention.)

CCD,

I have a feeling that many of our stats are high due to our system. (date rapes, etc.).

For example the US has a very high infant mortality rate but it is large part due to the fact that we report all deaths, including extreme premies, severe birth defects, etc. when other countries do not.
All tipoes and misspelings are copi-righted.  Pleeze do not reuse without ritten persimmons  :D

Yes Haz,

I am aware of the manipulations of statistics and how numbers get manipulated to suit the purpose of whoever is presenting them (inclusion of suicides in firearm violence being a good example.) But the report on its whole is a very interesting read ( I am a crim major/socio minor) The fear versus actual crime rates graphs were also interesting. The current controversy in Britain with the Home Ministry and its using the stats before they were certified being a good example. The criticism that the US gets in the world for having high crime rates just seems laughable when the people criticizing us are no better and some are worse.
