Walther P99 Magazines

I like my P99, I really do, but magazines are running close to $50/ea for a 12rounder in .40S&W.     I can get S&W99 mags a little cheaper, but still compared with XD (or.......Glock) these are outrageous prices. 

I'm sad to say, but I'm giving serious thought to trading in my P99 for an XD40.

That's one of the reasons I traded my H&K P2000 for a Sig 220. H&K mags are just as expensive and I never really liked the paddle release. Still, if you don't mind the P99's paddle release and you like the gun, then getting the mags now rather than latter is a smart decision. Also, use gunbroker to find the best deal, especially on a group of mags, rather than just one or two.

I like the P99 a lot. I even use one in a couple segments of The Best Defense, but you're going to find the XD a more efficient gun to use in a defensive context. The location of the decocker on the P99 is a bit awkward for most people (even after practice) and, of course, the complete lack of one on the XD means consistent trigger weight in all situations and the lack of an extra step after a string of fire.

I'm not getting rid of my P99 anytime soon, but I'm also not worried about extra mags as it is purely a pleasure gun/novelty for the collection.

According to its web site, CDNN has used .40S&W P99 LE mags for $19.99.

[Rob]  I love the mag release on the P99.  So much easier to use than traditional buttons, but I can see that it also opens a greater possibility of accidental release in a very active situation.   I don't see what the problem is with the de-cocker, unless you're trying to do it all with only the grip hand.  If you're in an active defensive situation, then you wouldn't de-cock it anyway.    I like that it's built-in and not likely to be activated by accident.

Techniques vary, but we do teach to decock after a string of fire while in the ready position to keep the function of the gun consistent at every extension to a shooting position (i.e.- as it would be from the holster), and we certainly teach a fair amount of one handed shooting and recommend a high level of ability to manipulate the gun one handed. I too like the mag release and have never thought it would cause a problem.

Wow... Finally people that know what a Walther is, let alone use and own them.  I am new to this site and I am happy to see that there are some people out there that have these guns.  I have been trying to get a greater following in southeastern Iowa but the availability of the guns have made my bandwagon a difficult one to jump on.  I have 2 P99's one in QA trigger and the other in AS trigger.  I carry the AS most of the time due to the ability to decock and not have to reset the striker.  Also own a P22 that is a great little plinking gun.  I am looking to purchase a P99c .40 AS in the near future and I'm looking for feedback.. Anything?

While I've been a Walther fan for some time, I was please to see Rob was knowledgeable about them. 

I have two complaints about my P99AS.  One is the cost of magazines.  Just entirely out of this realm, not unlike mags for my Tikka.  The other is, it is almost two easy to double tap.   I could use just a slightly strong trigger reset spring.  Something that can be fixed readily, though.  Other than that I love my P99.

I had two German made PPK/s.  One in .380 and one in .22lr.  Sold both for a very pretty penny.  Replaced the .380 with a Gadsen PPK/s and the money from the .22 has financed several other guns.

I like the AS trigger based on what I heard about it a while ago. My understanding is that it has three basic modes of operation: double action, single action, and a hybrid where the trigger has the light weight of the single action, but the long draw stroke of the double action, with all subsequent shots being in single action. Is that accurate?

The only other information I do know about the AS system is that it's not availble in new guns anymore. I guess it was just too smart to sell well. I really like the concept though.

It appears there arent any SW-99 mags to be had out there that arent the same price as the walther mags. I have four high caps and I'd like to have at least three more. CDNN had trade in SW-99 9mm police mags up until the day after the election and suddenly they all disappeared.

I found two on Midway, and now they arent reordering them for some reason. This is why Im using my 10 round P99 mags for range work.

The P-99 really is worth your time though,...try one and you will be smitten.

Hard to find good holsters too unless you order a custom one
