Guns at the inauguration?

Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) and gun control groups are concerned that some visitors attending President-elect Obama’s inauguration may try to pack heat because of a rule allowing concealed weapons in national parks.

Washington D.C. does not allow concealed weapons, but Norton and other think confusion over the rule could lead visitors to bring guns to Obama’s Jan. 20 inauguration, which will be held on two miles of National Park land – the National Mall.

“It is truly frightening to think of what this could mean coming just a couple of weeks before the inauguration,” said Norton, who has long supported strict gun laws in D.C.

Larry Pratt, executive director for the pro-gun rights Gun Owners of America, said Norton’s fears are misguided.

“People know enough to check on what the rules are,” Pratt said. “It’s not been a problem in the past and I can’t imagine why all of a sudden it’s going to be a problem on that particular day. It may be a problem for people who don’t like guns, but they have that problem every day.”

Rep. Holmes needs to worry more about suitcase nukes and bio/chem weapons on that day than the lawful "scary guy".
Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence. The very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference. - George Washington

It is bad enough that she feels the need to twist this in this way, but what is worse is they are making sure that it hits every media outlet there is.  I have heard as much on this as I have the Coleman/Franken recount.

I'm supposed to believe that they are not going to go after the Second Amendment and our Rights when almost a month before inauguration they start spinning crap like this out  >:(

I hope nothing like that happens. One of my nieces will be in attendance with her school class. She said she would rather be attending McCain's inauguration, but will have to go with what she was given.
"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

Our daughter is heading to DC for two days of work next week.  Her office is right across the street from the Capital, and she has been told by those that are there everyday that security is really getting tight.  She'll be in Minneapolis for meetings inauguration day, and very glad to be away from DC.

I bet she is! Who wants to be anywhere near a few million libs with only a few thousand toilets????
Anti: I think some of you gentleman would choose to apply a gun shaped remedy to any problem or potential problem that presented itself? Your reverance (sic) for firearms is maintained with an almost religious zeal. The mind boggles! it really does...

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.

Keep in mind that her IQ is several points above that of your average chimp.

I think the Chimpanzee-Americans may wish to take issue with you on that!

Obama is favored by those who are most likely to commit terror.  Muslims, I believe, tend to think he is one of them, so it's highly doubtful there will be any major "incident" at the inauguration.
