Police still searching for 'armed and dangerous' fugitive from Monroe correctional facility

Thurman Lamont Stanley

By Andrew Scott
Pocono Record
December 31, 2008

Police are still searching for Thurman Stanley, who didn't return to Monroe County Correctional Facility from a work release program early Tuesday.

Police have not released any new information in the search for Stanley. Because he had been serving time for committing a March armed robbery on East Stroudsburg University’s campus, Stanley is considered armed and dangerous, police said.

Monroe County Correctional Facility Warden David Mauro did not return phone calls today from the Pocono Record seeking comment on how the work release program operates, how inmates are supervised and how a situation like this will affect the program in the future.

County Commissioner Donna Asure, who heads the county Prison Board, deferred questions to Mauro, saying county court judges grant or deny inmates’ petitions to be allowed out on work release after careful review of each inmate’s case.

County President Judge Ronald Vican on Dec. 4 granted Stanley’s petition for work release, allowing him to work through the ERG staffing agency at Hayward Labs on Route 447 in East Stroudsburg, according to court records. Stanley was scheduled to leave the jail Monday through Friday at 2:15 p.m., work at Hayward from 2:45 to 11:45 p.m. and return to the jail at 12:15 a.m. the next morning.
His fiance, Shaunika N. Davidson, was to provide transportation for him between the jail and job, which paid $8 an hour.
He was reported missing at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Stanley is described as a dark-skinned black male, 6 feet tall, 185 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, a goatee and tattoos on his chest and arms.

He was last seen in Stroudsburg, wearing a red and white jacket bearing the letters “DB,” blue jeans and a black hat and getting into an older-model white Cadillac four-door sedan with tinted windows and an Illinois registration. A white woman named Jessica Rice, 20, was in the vehicle with him.

Anyone with information should call state police at Swiftwater at (570) 839-7701.

Illinois registration was weird enough. What's the chance of a woman named 'Rice' being in the car, too??? ;D

On a serious note, why would anyone let this guy out on work release? Doesn't seem a likely candidate. The only way this would be dumber is if the job was at one of the gun shops.

Condi Rice driving the car.  ;D  Democrat logo jacket? Anyway, I wouldn't put a pin-head on work release.

At one point I was considering applying for the open QA manager position (I used to do that) at Hayward that was emailed to me. But I remembered that position seems to be open frequently.  Now I know one reaason why.  Who would want to 'manage' a work force with individuals like this in it? I'm guessing he's not the only one. :)

I used to work for a company where one of the OWNERS was on work release,  from the time they leave the jail til they get back there is no supervision at all.
Work release for ARMED ROBBERY ? The judge should be in the next cell.
