FAQ: Best Defense on DVD or Download?
« on: January 02, 2009, 09:38:47 AM »

We receive a ton of emails about The Best Defense series and the #1 is this:

Q: Can a copy of the show be purchased on DVD or will it be available for download?

A: At this time, Best Defense will only be available on Outdoor Channel. If DVDs become available, it will be after the season's first rerun which ends at the end of June.

Videos with outtakes and footage which has not been used on the show, will be available on DownRange.TV in the near future.

Hi Marshal,
For the life of me, I can not figure out why OC/SG have not distributed their shows on iTunes or allowed them to be purchased on DVD. To me that seems like the biggest no-brainer in television. But I hasten to add that I don't know a wit about how those agreements are made, so maybe it's beyond my grasp for a reason.  :-\

Can you tell us why that has never been done?

Thanks!!

Actually, Shooting Gallery and Cowboys (shows produced by Outdoor Channel) was available on DVD a couple of years ago. These were previous episodes and seasons not on a rerun.

It is all a matter of putting logistics together and resources to make it happen.

We are looking into the options, so stay tuned....

If Best Defense becomes available through other media, it will not happen during 1st and 2nd quarter '09.

I don't know about the rest of the DRTV community, but I know I would be willing to pay for premium content like those shows. I like to download episodes of the "The Office" from iTunes and download other series from other networks to watch the shows I like when I want. I also like to cook so I bought the DVD series of "America's Test Kitchen" (all 8 seasons) and get alot out of the shows too; many delicious meals.....

Anyway, I will be keeping an eye out for any new developments.

Thanks again!

Only way I will see it also.  I would have to double my Direct TV bill to get the Outdoor channel

OC is only $1.99/month ala cart on the Dish system. You might look at switching.

I got all excited when I read that there where some old seasons of shooting gallery out there on DVD, but alas, my ebay searches keep turning up nothing other that some terrible looking movie staring Freddie Prince JR.

I understand that authoring DVD's in an investment and takes some production and organization.  I would think that posting a show on itunes would take a little less work and investment, but, knowing apple, im sure that that it isnt exactly straight forward.

Still, there must be something....  there are other digital video dl services out there, and what about just doing it yourself?  Look at the porn industry:  hundreds of thousands of guys with a camcorder and some naked girls can figure out how to sell downloadable video, how hard can it be?

Id be happy to pay  for individual episodes of shooting gallery and best defense  or even a "download every episode"  subscription-based service.

You guys have been constant innovators in terms of your shows and content,  just apply some of that same mindset to distribution!
