Comanche II Double Action Revolver (Now with Porn!)
« on: January 04, 2009, 11:28:29 PM »
Hey all,
I am thinking of buying one of these from a guy I know, does anyone have any experience shooting one of these? From what I can find, it is not a bad pistol for the money. http://www.gunshowdirectory.com/more.asp?gid=20298&gun=Revolver

Thanks in advance for any info.

Update: 1/17/09
Here are some pictures of my "new" revolver. I will post on its performance as soon as I can get it to the range.

100 bucks or less, OK, if it does not work, then hang it on the wall, and lesson learned. >:(

They have been around for 20 years or so, I don't know any one who's had one but I've never heard any complaints about them.

After some preliminary Google-Fu (my Google-Fu is strong) I discover that the Comanche is made by a company that bought Llama's machines. Now Llama actually made some decent guns back in the day, but nothing I would want to bet my life on. I would be FAR more comfortable with a used Ruger or Smith or a new Taurus, in fact I carried a Taurus .357 back in the day in my armored car. Most of the people who bitch about Taurus revolvers complain that the triggers and actions are not as smooth as S&W, I wouldn't know about that, as I am the least trigger sensitive person on the planet, I couldn't tell the difference between the Taurus and my dad's model 25.

Ok, I didn't think it was anything I would want to carry or bet my life on except as a last resort. I was looking at it more as a plinking gun since it is chambered in 38 spl. I only offered the guy $150 because it looks brand new and the action was still nice and tight. He hasn't said anything yet about selling it to me. If I don't get it, no biggie.

If it goes bang when you pull the trigger it's okay for plinking. It doesn't need to be anything fancy.

That is what I was looking for, I have the dies for reloading, and I figure if I can get a decent group out to 25 yds, it will do fine for a range gun. Especially since I can get it for a small amount of money.

If it groups decent and goes bang EVERY time you pull the trigger no reason it would not make a decent carry gun.
Modern bullet technology has put .38 back in the running as a defensive round, especially if it will take +P loads.

ok, time for the range report. I shot it at 7 yds. to see how it worked. I was able to get a 1 inch 5 shot group using double action. It goes bang every time I pull the trigger and the recoil is very manageable. Although it is a loud one, my neighbor went shooting with me and was surprised at how loud it was. The rear sight issue was not a problem, after the first shot, I had to move the sight to the right, now the sight is back just about center. All in all, it is a good pistol for the money.
