EPISODE #3: SAFE ON THE STREET
As series host Michael Bane points out, Americans spend more time in parking lots than we would really care to know. The more comfortable you become with any location, the greater risk there is to become less aware of what is going on around you. Mike Janich and Michael Bane take you through several different danger scenarios that can occur in parking lots and show you what the best defense would be for each situation, and Rob Pincus answers the big question; what is the best firearm to own for personal defense.

In the parking lot section of the show MB mentioned that kidnapping is on the rise. Can you point me to those statistics somewhere? tks...

p.s. I thought it funny when the lady reported the wrong license plate number to the police. Woops... :)

Good show.  I've been talking to my wife about parking lot awareness for 25 years.  It was nice to see some scenarios for both men and women.  Also, as demonstrated, sometimes the best defense is a charged cell phone.

Great show. I also have my wife watching the TBD she will be getting her CCW and loves the (women) point of view in the show. She has always had great awareness and is seeing just how important it is!!!

Most times outside the home , awareness can remove the need for self defense.

Good ep, got the wife hooked on the show. She was yelling at the woman to not be an idiot :)

BTW, what holster did Mr. Pincus have when at the Blackwater range? Hard to see on my TV, but it looked like he had a thick belt or something under his Underarmor shirt. Couldn't tell if it was some type of belly band, hip pouch, or if the shirt was just bunched up over a regular IWB. Maybe it was just the battery pack for his microphone.

Here are a few scattered answers to the questions I saw in recent posts:

Kidnapping stats: You can do an Internet search on "kidnapping statistics" and get a lot of hits. Like anything else, though, you need to evaluate the veracity of the source and take statistics with a grain of salt. Here's one that seemed to be a decent example: http://www.project.org/info.php?recordID=158

Rob's holster at Blackwater: It was my Blade-Tech Kydex IWB holster.

Reporting the wrong license plate number: The original plan was to have the license plate on the van "blurred' out in the edit. That's why she reported a variant of the plate, making up fictitious letters. Since it was a rental van, nobody considered it critical and the blurring never happened. It became an awareness "pop quiz." You passed.

I hope this helps. Thanks to all for your enthusiasm and feedback.

Stay safe,

Mike

I have been on trips and finally got to view my DVR of this episode.  Excellent.  I also have my wife and my two young boys watching, and we stop it at times and point out stuff.  They are also asking questions.  I think a couple of light bulbs burned dimly as to why mom and dad do things a certain way at times..

Bidah, Good move having the kids watch as well, even if they forget the shows the ideas and mindset will stay with them forever.
