"Best Defense" is off to a great start.  I really like the scenario approach.  But on the part that covered defensive gun selection, I was disappointed.  Although there was a revolver on the table, it wasn't mentioned at all.  For many, the simple, always reliable revolver would be the best choice.  For others, especially those carrying for the first time and very sensitive about the gun printing, a small pocket pistol such as a Kel-Tec or Ruger .380 ACP would be a good starter gun.  It's better to carry a smaller gun than to leave a bigger gun at home because of its size.

Troy,

Please try to catch episode 2 in re-runs.... The J-frame revolver was definitely mentioned. In fact, it was saved for last because it is most most usual carry gun lately which was mentioned when Michael and I discussed it! We even mentioned the same points that you did.

Thanks for watching!

Another good point of the J frame size revolver is that the grip is larger, closer to the size of a full size pistol. This makes it easier to grip properly under stress and MUCH easier to shoot accurately, especially for novice shooters.
I have been shooting for 40 years this coming spring, and STILL find it somewhat awkward to grip such small guns as the Kel tec or LCP. But they are a million times better , ergonomicly, than the NAA .22 revolver.
As Troy said though, the best gun for self defense is the one you will have with you.

So, make sure the one you have with you is one which will do the job.

Too many shooters confuse self defense with killing someone.  That's not the primary purpose for self defense.  The idea is to stop your opponent's aggression, which doesn't always translate into a death.  Sure, a mouse gun is better than nothing, but it takes several minutes for an adult to bleed out and die.  In the mean time, someone with illegal drugs on board, or who is emotionally disturbed can do a lot of damage to you or your loved ones before they eventually bleed out.   There are many options with modern firearms that allow us to carry a major caliber in a small, powerful package.   Expensive?  Yes, but how much is your life worth?

Then there is the selection of self defense ammunition...........
