Primer smear with a new XD?

Is this normal for a striker fired sidearm? I know what it means with my 1911s, but this is a different animal for me. Smear runs a little less than halfway from the strike to the edge of the primer, and a similar smear is on the test round provided with the pistol.

Is there play in the hole the firing pin (striker, whatever) passes through ?  If the pin is not broken, and it still goes bang every time, I would not worry about it. But I could be wrong.

I didn't know it was normal for primers to look like that in any gun.

Don't know a whole lot about it but what if it rode further over and started striking the brass, you'd be in trouble then.

Yes this is normal. I have seen it before with XD's, Glock's, and some S&W's. All of the mentioned shot fine and continue to shoot fine. So, as far as I know it is fine. Some of mine do it and it hasn't been a problem yet. First time I saw it I wondered myself about it.. but the guns and accuracy didn't show any other signs of problems or damage. That is my .02.

Talked to Springfield when I ordered two recoil assemblies and it is common for the XD, as is the little diagonal dent on the fired casings. Spinning and hitting the ejection port on the latter.
