Show Volume
« on: July 11, 2007, 10:05:53 PM »
Was watching tonites shows back on DVR and noticed the sound is not always constantly at the same level.  I realize that Michael was talking to the camera in a hushed voice during Bruce's instruction, but it always seemed to be very quiet while Bruce was doing the majority of speaking (instruction).  Anyone else having that problem?  Maybe my DVR is doing that weirdness.

I mentioned this same thing to Marshal a while back for a different episode.  He said that the quality contro; on them was sub-par and was one of the up grades for the new season.

I didn't notice any sound problems, but was Bruce blepped at one point?

I noticed that too.  :D  When he was talking to the shooters at the firing line.  Hey, he's talking to adults and a word or two is gonna slip but MB and crew decided to delete it (I concur).

The problem was that under my old contract, I was 100% in charge of content, and the producer was 100% in charge of all production. Under my new contract, I am Executive Producer in Charge of Everything. The first "everything" I addressed was hiring a new production crew who saw eye-to-eye with me on relentless quality. I now have an agreement with the guys at Hatch in Denver, and we'll start filming at the Steel Challenge...you can see their reel here to get an idea of what they can do:

http://hatchtv.com/our_work.htm

We've been having meetings this week, and we're talking about taking SHOOTING GALLERY and COWBOYS to a whole different level. SG changed the whole landscape for shooting shows (witness FUTUREWEAPONS on Discovery, a huge success and, as one producer told me, the "first post-SHOOTING GALLERY type show" with others in the pipeline). My goal for 2008 is to rock the very foundations of the format I created and see just how far I can take it. I've promised the new CEO at the Outdoor Channel that I will deliver, and I will.

I just turned down (last week) yet another network who offered me a good gig to shape and direct a new series because I think SHOOTING GALLERY can be not just a landmark series, but a powerful tool in the RKBA fight, and that is important to me.

But heck, who really knows knows? I started this year unemployed with a bleak future. Luckily, my Sweetie reminded me that we all invent our futures every day! And we do.

Just wanted to say that I enjoy Shooting Gallery, and there are many EXCELLENT tips there.  Cowboys, I admit I have only seen one episode recently.  Will try to start catching more.  Would love to see more cowboy action shooting and maybe rifle/pistol spotlights.  Great Work Michael!

I noticed the same thing but I found the Audio Range setting on my cable box (Scienific Atlanta) had a significant effect. When I switched from Narrow to Normal audio range, the level issues mostly cleared up. As a pro TV audio guy things like that always drive me nuts but I thought I was the only one who noticed.  ;D
