I had a similar experience ericire.  My brother in law lived with my wife and I for a few months a couple of years ago, and one morning he got up and left at like 3am without telling us.  So I wake up to my apartment door closing...I race out of bed, 12 gauge is hot, and clear the rest of house, only to find him missing.  Its only after he comes home that he clues us in, and I rip him up for not communicating better.
