Ruger LCP Recall update

LCP Recall Update

The process of retrofitting returned LCP pistols is ongoing. We have experienced a delay in the delivery of a key part from one of our vendors. As a result, we are behind schedule in retrofitting pistols and are experiencing longer than anticipated delays in returning retrofitted pistols to our customers. Note that this delay only applies to pistols received in house since January 1st. We have expedited the part and expect to be back to normal turnaround times by February 1st.

As indicated in our recall notice, all customers who participate in the recall will receive a free extra magazine and finger-grip extension floorplate. We also are experiencing a delay in receiving the extended floorplates. Rather than wait to return retrofitted pistols, we are returning pistols with a free extra magazine with a standard floorplate. When the extended floorplates are available, we will send you a floorplate which can easily be substituted. Instructions for changing the floorplate are in the instruction manual for your LCP at page 22. (Each pistol was shipped new from the factory with a manual. The manual also is available online by clicking here.)
We expect to begin shipping extended floorplates around mid-March.

We value you as a customer and sincerely apologize for the delay and the inconvenience.
Thank you for your patience.

Thanks for the update, Marshall. I just sent my LCP out yesterday (1/26). We'll see how long before I get it back.

Imagine my surprise when I got home from work today to find that the "big brown truck of happiness" had delivered my retrofitted LCP. I dropped it off at UPS 8 days ago...pretty quick turn-around if you ask me. Included in the package was a real nice LCP hat and an extra magazine (less the finger grip extension). They included a note explaining the mag extension would be sent out at a later date.

Good job Ruger.

How big of a deal is this "problem" with the LCP?  I have one that "needs" to be sent in still.  I carry it on a daily basis and have been putting it off because I figured it was just one rare instance of someone dropping their gun on just the right spot and angle to make it fire.  I am also concerned about how long it will take to get my gun back.

If anything, the returned LCP works better than before, but it has been so cold and snowy, I have not had it to the range yet. Besides you get a free magazine and a really cool spiffy hat!!!

As Pathfinder stated...I did it to get the free mag and cool hat. But, if you are interested...check out what the boys over at Gunblast.com have to say http://www.gunblast.com/Ruger-LCP2.htm. Make sure to watch the video. It seems that there may be a valid concern.

I like the beginning of the video.  He drops the gun and you hear a kid yell "Mom."  Wish you could hear the rest ... Dad's throwing his gun around again.

By the way, I think fixing a gun that might go bang when you don't want it to is worth more than the free magazine or cool cap!

Update: I received the finger grip extensions (2 of them) from Ruger today. About a month and a half after I got the LCP back from the recall work.
