50cal BMG scope question/opinion
« on: January 26, 2009, 06:24:21 PM »
I am looking for the "best" 50cal scope for any and every situation possible. All opinions welcome but let me know the reasons for them. Thanks in advance, Tex.

The only .50 BMG rifle I have had experience with was the Barrett bolt action. It had a Bushnell 3200 Tactical scope that seemed to hold up at the time. I don't know about the long term, as I only had short-term use.
Barrett recommends Leupold, I believe.

For a 'be all, do all' scope set-up:

I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

have a look at  Nightforce   they are top high end scopes

http://www.nightforceoptics.com/

they do scoped for the military and also have a  Nightforce Ballistic Program for Pocket PC
that you can run on a PDA  or a Desktop / Laptop version
Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them

Yes. That's why I put the link to the Barrett website with the BORS system combined with Leupold scopes.
It is tops for their rifles, and what I would use if I had a .50 BMG rifle.

From Barrett:

Compatible Scopes
Leupold Mark IV 3.5-10x40mm LR/T M1
Leupold Mark IV 4.5-14x50mm LR/T M1
Leupold Mark IV 6.5-20x50mm LR/T M1
Leupold Mark IV 8.5-25x50mm LR/T M1
Leupold Mark IV 8.5-25x50mm ER/T M1

Happy Hunting.
Thanks.

Just curious, do you have a .50 BMG rifle already, or are you looking at getting one?
I'd love to get my grubby mitts on another one.

You know if you own up to having one you will be required to post porn.   ;D

Hey Peg, a few years ago Maadi  published instructions on how to build your own for a couple hundred $ the instructions were reprinted about 4 years ago in Shot gun News. Most expensive parts were a .50 cal Machine gun barrel and scope.
