The excuse?  Antiquated equipment used by the Bush administration is so low-tech they can’t understand it.  No, really:

It’s more than five hours and counting now since the entire White House e-mail system went down.

Press Secretary Robert Gibbs announced the technical snafu at his 1:30 p.m. briefing, apologizing to the media for the e-mail silence this afternoon.

The result is maddening for the new White House team, which already has been frustrated with the archaic communications gear they discovered when they arrived at their offices. …

Both outgoing and incoming mail are out, the result, an aide explained, of an outage with the Outlook server. The aide said the outage goes beyond the press shop. The first lady’s office is also without e-mail, as are other offices.

This came last week:
Quote
One member of the White House new-media team came to work on Tuesday, right after the swearing-in ceremony, only to discover that it was impossible to know which programs could be updated, or even which computers could be used for which purposes. The team members, accustomed to working on Macintoshes, found computers outfitted with six-year-old versions of Microsoft software. Laptops were scarce, assigned to only a few people in the West Wing. The team was left struggling to put closed captions on online videos.
Everything I needed to learn in life I learned from Country Music.

How many of our tax dollars are they going to waste replacing the pc's with macs?  I suppose it would be too much trouble to simply figure out how to work the systems that 95% of the rest of the world uses without problem.
I love waking up every morning knowing that Donald Trump is President!!

I HATE APPLE. They are so lame and the people who use them are so dumb. I love the "Well Mac's don't get viruses"

My reply is "Did you know at DEFCON 07 a Mac was the first computer to be hacked?" The guy who took it over just needed to direct it to a website and it was under his total control. Oh, and last year they found a mac virus in the wild...do they even make mac protection?

And, have you ever tired to get into the Properties of a file? Good luck.

PC all the way baby.

I see my computer like my gun, keep it clean and know how to fix it and where to get spare parts...

Where do you get spare mac parts? Oh, right the same people who sold you the big white brick.

firstly   when was the last time you used a mac ( with an open mind to learn about them and not just saying they are crap)

Hi My name is Phil and I am an Apple User heheh

hmmmm
The hack in question required user intervention, in simple terms it wasn't the OS at fault, it was the user. User based attacks can get by any operating system. Macs are still safer to operate, the Unix security model works well. Oh, and of course no one would regard hacking a Windows box as noteworthy.

yes there is a trogen that is out there however it still needs a user to activate it and yes there is software to catch it.

I can not understand how you get off saying that Mac users are dumb  caus if you looked the Mac has a Unix Back end and is extremely powerful system

yep no issues.....

for 80 to 90 % of computers they do not need to worry about stuff like that  they want there email and web to work. quickly and no issues, they want to be able use the computer not worry about configing this and installing that  to get simple tasks done

and if you want to do more the mac will also able you too.
+ if you need to down grade it for a while you are also able to run winblowz on it.

tell me another computer that will allow you to run Mac OS, Windows, Linyx, and Solaris all on the one computer  ;D

yes the Mac Is not for everyone  however they are better IMHO
Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them

I would like to point out to the new President and his staff that many families and businesses are using computers of the same era as they are now faced with.  We don't all have the resources to upgrade with every whim.  The business I work in has four staffed offices with five computers, plus the boss has one in his home office.  My computer was eight years old and was replaced with a new one last week, but my old one is getting a new hard drive and going to one of the other offices to replace an older one.  By the end of the week we will all be using XP (first time we will have all had the same version of Windows in 12 years).  The computer I am using to post this in my home office is nine years old, and all we have done is add a little RAM, up grade to XP, and a new monitor last summer.

I personally felt more comfortable with a National Leader that had been so involved in his Office and relied on staff to the level that he was "amazed" to see a scanner at the grocery store (by the way, out here in fly over land we had not had scanners in our grocery store for more than a couple months at the time he made national news with that one) than I do with a bunch of staff that can't get their jobs done without the "latest and greatest."
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.
