In one scene, the girl is firing and the recoil almost catches her in the nose. The Judge "ain't" small by any means but will do the job.

Saw it in Max Payne also.... Opened the stalls right up... ::)

Carrying it concealed would appear kinda difficult in light clothing. But a purse and/or man bag, or belly pouch would work.

At close range you do not need buckshot. 7 1/2 bird shot at 3 feet will be nearly as effective in discouraging bad behavior as buck would be.  Frankly if a miscreant sees you pointing a Judge at him he will probably hurt himself getting away.   :D

You might be surprised! One of my good friends has a 2 1/2" chamber Judge and we shot some steel plates with it the other day. From about 10 yards the bird-shot loads will only knock over the plates sometimes with a direct hit. To me this weapon is impressive, but for it to be successful at an anti-personnel role it needs to be loaded with either 00 Buck loads or quality .45 LC loads. The rifling is such that the shot column spins so much that a standard bird-shot load will cover a door-sized area at about 10 yards. You may severely sting an assailant, but I have serious doubts about being able to stop someone from that range.

P.S. We were using Winchester AA target loads: 1/2 oz. of either 8's or 9's.

This was the target setup:

The other day I ran across a Mossberg website and in testing out their 930 auto shotgun I believe, they actually did some tests of bird shot vs buck on meat from the butcher. They said even at CONTACT distances the bird shot failed to penetrate more than 2 inches. So they recommend buck always for defense. I take that as conclusive.

I was giving "THE JUDGE" ( feels manly, don't it) some thought. Then reailty hit.
1) The fact that anything less 000 buck is going to give you one of three things
    A. A pissed off BG picking birdshot out of his chest (don't even talk about headshots in an OH CRAP!! scenario)
     B. A blind plaintiff testifying against you later in the lawsuit.
    C. A LOT of shot, each of which you are responsible for, going God knows where.
2) In 2 1/2" you only get three pellets with the buck shot and beyond 10-15' these disperse very rapidly out of a rifled barrel. Yes, they're .36 calibre, but still have a lot less oomph than a bullet of anything from .32 on up.
3) The .45 Colt is nice, but the gap between the cylinder and barrel, plus the shot friendly rifling has to degrade accuracy.
4) The thing is as big as a house. Unless you weigh three hundred pounds you can't conceal it. If I'm going to use it in the house, I'd rather have 19 rounds of 9mm from my Glock than 6 of any kind of .410.
5) If you're hooked on shot for ccw, get a Bond Arms SnakeSlayer derringer. Theyre only 2 shots, but they take 3" 000, as well a the.45 Colt. They're built like a tank, have interchangeable barrels, and ride invisibly in your jeans. I have one in .357 and it shoots (with a little practice), about 4" at 10 yds. I'm sure the .45 .410 will do as well. Check out their site at www.bondarms.com
