So my question is, what is to stop you from putting a Magpul stock on it and then you have a carrbine exactly like the ones that we used in the military...one with a really short barrel.

Not that I would condone such a thing.

Ten years in the Federal slam and $10,000 fine; conviction on a Federal felony, meaning you can never own guns again.

Yes. it is AMAZINGLY stupid...furthermore, if you put a Crimson Trace vertical handgrip on one of the rails, instant Any Other Weapon status, and you're in the same trick bag with the G.

The 1934 Firearms Act was designed to give the hordes of "revenue agents," suddenly unemployed by the repeal of Prohibition, something to do. The Act was drafted to focus on non-consequential arbitrary trivia (barrel length, overall length, issues like you cite) designed to capture the most number of innocent gunowners in a Federal crime. Suppressors were added at the last minute to "discourage" poaching.

Under my understanding of the law, you cannot legally own even parts that could be assembled into a controlled firearm. For example, you could not possess a CT LaserGrip or a MagPul stock if the only AR you had was the pistol.

The penalties are WILDLY out of proportion to the "crime," which is basically failure to pay a $200 or $5 tax.

+1. Being defiant to BATF laws ranks right up there with getting smart with an IRS agent during an audit. They have the total power to literally disassemble your entire life with the stroke of a pen. Also, under the current administration, I'm quite sure Federal firearm law violators will be prosecuted with quite a bit more zeal than they were under Bush. That's my opinion anyway. I don't trust Hussein any further than I can toss a Grand Piano with two broken arms.  Bill T.

I was not proposing that one could or should do it. But it looks as though it could be easily converted to a very short rifle and I was curious if there was something physically that prevented the change.

I am not in support of breaking any law, I am in favor of changing the laws I don't agree with.

Are we bringing our guns to the march? That would be funny! A group of armed citizens larger than the US Army...Sure would put it in perspective for Capitol Hill.

Not to DC because of the gun laws, The threat will have to be contained in the NUMBERS. But satalite marches are also being planned for state capitals, so carry as appropriate.

I learned one thing from WTO in Seattle...when the numbers are ten times greater than the police you don't get arrested. If it was 10000 times they would think twice.

You really have to check your state laws on carrying while attending large gatherings, I will have to doulble check, but I think it is a no-no in NC. Just thought I would point this out.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." [Samuel Adams]
