Isn't it interesting that 2 of the States with the most lax gun laws also have the lowest crime rates, (NH 49 - Vt 50 ) They are also the ones with the lowest % of ethnic minorities.

My state is #2 on the list (South Carolina). There is a LOT of drugs and minorities in the state, and the violence is isolated to certain counties where (surprise) those two are the most prevalent.... it also boils down to the fact that their are many incompetent sheriffs here in this state.... You can see it on their faces when they do news interviews.... they are overwhelmed and have no clue what to do to fix the problems with violent crime.

I'll take a score of 7 out of 100 for Georgia........hope we're pissing them (Brady's) off really good.

We still have a lot of fighting to do.

"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

I remember reading that some time ago...  something like half of the "laws" they stated about CA were flat out lies, and about a quarter were half truths. They are doing better... 5 years ago it would have been 100% flat out lies.

I came up with a very similar graph when I plotted out the numbers:

I don't get the graph. It says "by state," but doesn't have any states listed. Regardless, you can imagine the pride I'm feeling about my state being on the top of Brady's list! Obviously, gun control isn't working in California.

Recently, the Orange County Register published a report that said that violent crime numbers were down in all, but 2 cities in our county. It was later disclosed that any crime scene that had multiple victims was counted as 1 crime.

Some of you may have seen the reports about our Sheriff butting heads with all of us over CCW on NRA's site. Queen Sheriff is probably going to turn our county "shall issue" come election time, when she's voted out.

If you plot the gun control ranking verses the violent crime ranking there is NO correlation.

If you take the top 25 ranked by Brady Gun Control Ranking, their average Crime Rate Ranking is 25.84
If you take the bottom 26 ranked by Brady Gun Control Ranking, their average Crime Rate Ranking is 26.12

If you take the top 10 ranked by Brady Gun Control Ranking, their average Crime Rate Ranking is 24.3
If you take the bottom 10 ranked by Brady Gun Control Ranking, their average Crime Rate Ranking is 29.2

If you take the top 5 ranked by Brady Gun Control Ranking, their average Crime Rate Ranking is 22
If you take the bottom 5 ranked by Brady Gun Control Ranking, their average Crime Rate Ranking is 27.6

Here is how the states rankings are determined by Brady

The state“s complete scorecard results can be accessed at www.bradycampaign.org. The categories covered by the California 2008 scorecard are as follows:

States can earn up to 35 points by taking all measures needed to "Curb Firearms Trafficking." States can fully regulate the gun dealers within its borders, limit bulk purchases of handguns, provide police certain technology to identify crime guns, and require lost or stolen guns to be reported to the police. California scored 26 points in this category.

States can earn up to 25 points by "Strengthening Brady Background Checks." This involves requiring universal background checks and requiring a comprehensive permit in order to purchase firearms. Short of universal background checks, states can also close the gun show loophole, at least requiring background checks for all gun show sales. California scored 23 points in this category.

States can earn up to 20 points by "Protecting Child Safety" when it comes to guns. States can require that only childproof handguns be sold within their borders, require child safety locks sold with each weapon, hold adults accountable for keeping guns away from kids and teens, and require gun purchasers to be at least 21 years of age. California scored 10 points in this category.

States can earn up to 10 points by "Banning Military-style Assault Weapons," as well as banning high-capacity ammunition magazines. California scored 10 points in this category.

In a miscellaneous category, states can earn up to 10 points by making it harder to carry "Guns In Public Places" (except for trained law enforcement and security) and by "Preserving Local Control" over municipal gun laws. This includes keeping guns out of workplaces and college campuses, not forcing law enforcement to issue concealed handgun permits on demand, not permitting "shoot first" expansions to self-defense laws, and not preventing cities from passing their own gun laws. California scored all 10 points in this category.
