MKS/Hi-Point Firearms
« on: February 09, 2009, 08:00:26 PM »
Mr. Bane and Mr. Pincus, I know that it has been discussed numerous times about what is best for home defense, either a shotgun, pistol/revolver or a assault rifle. One thing I have not seen much mentioned about in personal and economic defense is the topic of MKS/Hi Point Firearms. They are produced in both 9 mm and .40 cal. and are able to fire +P+ ammo and they also maintain a warranty for life for the original owner (Along with a price tag affordable to most wallets along with being made in the USA). I have been questioned personally about what is best for home defense that a small statured woman or a teenager could use for self defense without fear of recoil and Hi-Point carbine is my personal response. I know this fails in comparison to my Glock 21SF, DPMS L-16, or my Remington 870, but I feel safe knowing my wife has a choice to utilize a Hi-Point Carbine in the home without being proficient with other firearms and the accuracy is evident. I am curious to both your thoughts and opinions on this particular firearm. Thanks, Brian "Ping" Harless

anyone else notice how pricey Hi-Points are becoming? You used to be able to get them for at or under $100. Now they are pushing $175-$200

.45 as well. Several people on here have posted that while they are clunky etc. they go bang EVERY time you pull the trigger.

My experience with them is that you get what you pay for.  A good friend of mine has one in 9mm, it is actually pretty accurate, but it will keyhole every round.

John Taffen did a write up in the April GUNS magazine about the .45 version.

I was just getting ready to say the same thing tombogan!  I do have the hi-point .380.  I had the 9mm, but a good friend wanted it, so I sold it to him for what I paid for it.  He loves it.  I don't carry my hi-point .380 as it is too heavy.  But it goes bang everytime.  I have never had a problem with it ever!  I'm going to buy the 9mm carbine rifle in the spring, as I have 4 .380/9mm mags for some shooting fun!

Other than the weight, I would carry it everyday.  Bang, bang, bang!
