Episode 7: Great job tying it together!
« on: February 12, 2009, 07:35:56 AM »
I thought it was great in last nights episode how you tied the shooting together with the actual event you were talking about.  You guys always give great tips, but the shooting tips tied exactly to the events that you guys were walking through.  Would have like to have seen how dealt with the guy coming up from the back during your shooting exercise.  Other then that, great job as always!

Of course you are right handed and liked the way you did it.  Can you give some suggestions for a lefty carring on his left hip.  I have some ideas but would like to hear yours Rob.

Thanks
Bob

I actually first addressed that problem for righties in Right hand drive vehicles.... and it IS a problem. In a worst case scenario, you do what you have to do and leaning as far out to the center of the car as possible while extending the gun into a shooting position seems to be feasible for most people. If you can prepare ahead of time and train the problem, using a hard-mount holster inside the vehicle and training to shoot with the hand to that is in the center of the vehicle (using the same body indexing technique taught in the show) is actually a better bet. The lower fine motor control in the weak hand is not as much of an issue in a body-index situation. Again: Don't think that the ability to pull it off is going to miracle itself into your body during an incident!  Train the draw and orientation (either solution) ahead of time with a Prop Gun or DRY first. Integrating a laser trainer can also allow you to check muzzle alignment without a live-fire exercise or simulation gun/airsoft.

 Be Safe when you train!

I did see the part where you exited the vehicle.  Knowing that you are limited to gross motor skills does make it tough for that type of situation.  Worry about the seat belt catching you in a rush, and other small details.  Of course I fully understand the principle of practice, practice, practice, and when you think you have done enough, practice some more.  Thanks again for all the great tips.
