Banning pocket knives? Come on........
« on: February 14, 2009, 11:24:21 AM »
I know Ken Onion personally. He is one of the best friends of a friend of mine..
Ken spoke up about HB 126 on KHON2 news yesterday.

A bill aimed at prohibiting manufacturing, selling or possessing a pocket knife is drawing criticism across the country.
The public's reaction has also forced a Hawaii lawmaker to re-evalute a policy he's maintained for 22 years.

Here's the clip..

I have a Ken Onion-designed Kershaw, #1550. Black kydex and black blade, no serrations, great knife. I carry it every day and keep it sharp! Bought the very same knife for my son, and plan on getting 2 more, one with serrations. You never know when they may come in handy . . . .

Liberals live by the trial balloon. They sit around their taxpayer supplied offices trying to dream up one ignorant idea after another, and every now and then they float a trial balloon, to see how the public will receive it. If it's ignored, they will try to pass it, but if someone speaks loudly and in public, they will lie and say someone suggested it to that particular lawmaker, and they would never think of passing such a thing.

When you realize that 99.0% of all politicians are bold face serial prevaricators, then this kind of thing isn't difficult to comprehend. ;D

This was on the news the other day. If this guy didn't have a knife, the girl might be dead. I clip my Cold Steel on my pocket every day, like grabbing my keys. Knives are just tools, and are probably the most useful tools that man has ever invented. I've never cut anyone, and while I could use it to do so, I do use it all the time for simple tasks at home and work.

I forgot one day and was asked to put it in my car when I went into Disneyland. No big deal, but what was I going to do with a little knife.

Didn't England do this? I think Australia is working on it also if they haven't passed it already.

The bafoonary that exists in our self proclaimed leaders.
“As democracy is perfected, the office of the President represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people.  On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be occupied by a downright fool and a complete narcissistic moron.”  H.L. Mencken, The Baltimore Evening Sun,  July 26, 1920.

Politics At Its Worst!

He says he did this because his people were asking for it even though he would vote against it  ???  At what point does he show maturity and professionalism and not waste the time and money of "junk" legislation?  I question the integrity of a politician that would introduce one piece of legislation just to keep his constituents happy and then vote against it.  Is it just me, or is he trying to have his cake and eat it too.  So far he has alienated a group for bringing this legislation up, and soon he will alienate another group by voting against it (if it ever gets its day on the floor) ... not to mention his credibility with the rest in Washington DC for wasting their time with this move.
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

they are working on it   ::)

In Australia is that you must have a legitimate reason for carrying one - which includes needing it for work but NOT for self defence. Now, I'd argue that a pocket knife is useful for most jobs, but that's another story - if a cop decided you look dodgy the onus would be on you to prove your legitimate reason - I don't know if "I open my mail with it" would be good enough - there is nothing in the regulations about how you must use the knife at work for it to be acceptable.

Sadly, the best advice is "don't carry anything that looks mean!" (so the 3" length rule is worth sticking to, even though there is no mention of length in the regulations) - and don't be caught in the wrong place at the wrong time!

Flick knives, Balisongs, and Daggers, which are banned everywhere and considered the spawn of Satan are, in all honesty, only banned because the bad guys use them in movies! They are no more dangerous or sinister than any other knife - but it's the perception.

You CAN possess the above 'illegal blades' if you have a permit for the importation from your States Police Commissioner or State's Firearms Registry who administer these permits.

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them
