New movie, " Taking Chance"
« on: February 22, 2009, 11:07:50 PM »
OMG, hard stuff, and well done which makes it worse, Kevin Bacon as a Marine Colonel who has escaped combat so far has to escort a fallen Marine from Iraq, back to Montana, and it is the most respectful movie I have ever seen, Yes I cried my eyes out several times, I put it on my must watch list, with plenty of tissues. Check it out, and be forewarned.
Here is the  link.

Got chills just watching the previews. Missed it due to work and didn't realize it was on again today.
Looks like one I'll have to watch on demand after the kids go to bed tomorrow.
Thanks for the reminder.

Saw it Sun. night on HBO. I agree m25, totally respectful and coming from Hollywierd, very surprising.

Glad to see the producers, directors, etc,.. followed protocols, and did not have some "alternative" message.

Based on the true story of PFC. Chance Phelps, it made me well up, but a wonderful movie.

Great line,... Bacon did a great job.

NOT wrong there

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them

A few years ago, a fallen soldier came home to our small town in Mid Michigan.  Townspeople, young and old, lined the streets from the funeral home to the cemetery.   As the procession passed, the soldier's mother rolled down the limo's window and said " thank you" as she passed.  Our presence there was our way of saying thank you to her son, for his service to our country.  Sit down with your older kids and watch this with them..It speak volumes about honor and respect we should have for our sons and daughters in uniform

A couple of years ago I was privileged to ride motorcycle Honor Guard as part of the Patriot Guard Riders for the fallen son-in-law of some friends of ours.  He was laid to rest in a rural cemetery, and all along the 10+ mile funeral procession route people were lined up alongside the county blacktop holding American Flags, and saluting this fallen hero as a gentle rain fell.  At the entrance to the cemetery was a fire department's ladder truck with a huge American Flag suspended over the driveway to this fallen hero's final resting place.

I can assure you that the light rain was a welcome camoflage for a group of big, tough bikers (most of whom were veterans) all of whom would have had damp faces even had it not been raining.
I love waking up every morning knowing that Donald Trump is President!!

I need to get a copy of that!  I have watched, and am waiting for my own copy, of the History Channels show on Arlington.

I have never dealt with a fallen soldier, but have talked with several that have.  The closest I get is going to Fort Snelling occasionally.  To this day I am amazed by the respect on the highway when you come along with flags on the fenders and the flag draped casket in the back.
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.
