A great gun. And give your son an "ATTABOY" for picking it out man. The only downside to the 629 over say the Ruger is the cylinder length. Rugers can be hand loaded with Bigger bullets than Smith. For me thats not a big deal. As for shooting lose. IF and I mean IF you can with honest shooting then the Factory willl fix it. At the most you will pay for shipping&parts. I have a huge round count through my 629PP and its still very tight, Great groups  and LOVES destroying bowling pins. And now that i think about it I may just bring it to the match tomorrow.  ;D

Tex

Well I brought my 629PP to the pin match today. Boy o' Boy am I glad. My Comp-gun broke and I started to get a little bummed out. That is until i pulled out my 44mag and unleashed some(150rds+) 200gr full wadcutters @ 1100fps. and a hand full of 240gr@1050fps.(mostly in reloaders JIC).
There is something very rejuvenating to my spirt when the Mag sends a pin into flight. Someone with any greef or downfall in thier life only needs to rip it up with a "hand cannon" to bring back that SMILE  ;D

Since this first posted I've been keeping my eye out and I saw a used 629 the other day...perfect! (except they were putting it away for someone). I also agree that your son seems pretty savvy to pick that out over all the other shiny stuff in the cabinet. Good stuff all around.

Congrats to your son Hazcat!! He made an excellent choice. Don't by into the shoot it loose theory. I had model 29 several years (had to sell when I was laid off  >:( ) ago that had belonged to a siloette competitor and still was bank valt tight.
How can our politicians secure our borders, when they can't secure an intelligent thought?

Jaybethel, JoJo,

We are going on a pig hunt in Sept and he is hoping to get an under 25 yard chance so he can use the 629 instead of his carbine.

He really likes this gun!

I've never hunted pigs, but I would think 25 yards is as close as you'd like to get without firing something big at the porker.
I hear they're about as friendly as hippos.

That quote is FROM ME!!!
I have to put down my other stuff to play with the Strat. I once had a throat lozenge go down almost to my lung. Didn't realise it before but when you start throwing down some people do things unconciously, like Michael Jordan with the tongue out. When I go at it evidently I hold my breath, grunt, wheeze, and lord knows what else that would cause me to inhale a lozenge the size of a 50 cent piece.
So...I need two hands- no .45, and I need to breathe, so the cigar goes too 'cause I'd hate to inhale the whole cigar. But it's worth it.

I haven't tried shooting with a cigar...Jersey frowns on cigars (along with almost everything else).
