What to carry when going to the beach/shore/lake
« on: July 29, 2007, 10:40:06 PM »
I was at the beach this weekend and had to leave the firearm behind since I would be going into the water.  I would like to hear everyone's advice/preference for a carry gun, rig & ammo when going into water.

My current thought would be a lightweight revolver in a pocket with a zipper, maybe something like board shorts with a nice pocket on the leg?

Thanks in advance for the ideas!

What to carry when going to the beach/shore/lake ....A towel   ;D (sorry couldn't resist).

I think I saw something by MB on this.  May not have been swimming but I remeber some one saying that a zip-lock was a good way.   That you should be able to stick your finger through the plastic to fire if necessary.

Haven't tried it myself, but a buddy never goes to the lake/river/gulf/rain puddle without his Kel-Tec P3AT.  Uses
Cor-bons, I think, but I wouldn't swear to that...  Whatever it is, it's a coated bullet (wax, maybe?) to make the round waterproof.
He's not scuba diving, mind you, but he's submerged it while swimming and then shot it to test, and had no issues. Uses a belly band
under his swim trunks.

As for me, I just make sure that the 12-ga flare pistol on the boat stays loaded.  :)

I fish, don't swim, and when I go to the lake it is the same carry gun as everywhere else. My Glock 26..Soon it's going to go into a Sparks SS-2 instead on an OWB rig, so I can wear a loose shirt over it.

A friend has a black Ti coated Beretta Tomcat 32 auto I want really bad. He knows I want it, and he's taunting me. I may break his will soon though.

I mean, he doesn't even carry it for goodness sake.
>:(

Last time I was at the ocean, I carried a Kahr P-9 in pocket  holster carry. It worked rather well.

Lawrence, you're gonna love the Sparks holster...  But then, you probably already knew that.  :)

HA! I once got fired from a magazine job for an article called "How to Carry a Gun on the Beach!" The editor called and asked me what kind of psychotic would carry a gun on the beach, to which I replied, "A live one." Biddidah-bump! Instant unemployment.

I like the little Kel-Tec .32 in tis blue pouch...

I know this is a gun forum but when going to the beach I carry edged weapon for personal defence. When wearing little more than skin a knife is a lot eaiser to wear along with getting it into action a whole lot faster. But I am far from Michael Janich in skill. But if we are talking "Apples to Apples" my pistol skills are below Todd Jarrett's also. ::)   But I still carry my pistola.  ;)

So since that article never saw the light of day... how about a re(ahem first)print of the article.  I am sure none of us will want you fired it should be safe by now.  I really am curious on how I could have/will carry.  I do have a Kel-Tec 3AT, have you ever submerged and then fired?  I think I have a new science experiment next time I go out to the range!  Being from Florida the salt water has me a bit concerned with a semi-auto though.   :-\

On the American Rifleman show just last week they fired a .45 underwater for their torture test.

I fired but after four rounds there was a bulge in the barrel.
