Hey guys, I reread my earlier post and realized it was a bit harsh. Its just that as someone who teaches American political history, ignoring the facts to make history into some sort of political morality play (of whatever flavor) drives me insane. History, particularly ours, is complicated and messy. Pretending it isn't cheapens the very real human heroism of folks like those at Fort McHenry ( or Henry or whatever) and makes them into cardboard saints. The whole thing just seems to demean them, us and the country, particularly when done for  political purposes. I won't say I didn't mean to offend, but I could have chosen my words and tone better. Sorry

PS I really am a bitter Libertarian.

Beer drinking, gun toting, pick-up driving, Episcopalian, and damn proud of it! Although, as a genteel, educated redneck, I have been known to spit my dip into a perrier bottle. Its almost as much fun as watching folks figure out my pro-choice and NRA stickers on the truck. ;D
