CPAC is officially a JOKE! (as is the RNC)
« on: March 01, 2009, 07:37:47 AM »
They sit there and applaud speech after speech espousing conservative values and smaller government then when the straw vote comes it is back to the same old loser RINOs.

We need a CONSERVATIVE party!

Romney Tops Palin in 2012 Straw Poll

February 28, 2009 5:40 PM

ABC News' Teddy Davis reports: The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) has chosen former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney as the winner of the first Republican straw poll of the 2012 campaign.

With 20 percent of the vote, Romney finished ahead of Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who received 14 percent, as well as Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, who each had 13 percent.

"For the hat trick, Mitt Romney takes his third straight straw poll," said Tony Fabrizio, the Republican pollster who tabulates CPAC's annual straw poll results.

Rounding out the rest of the results: former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-Ga., received 10 percent, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee received 7 percent, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford received 4 percent, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani received 3 percent, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty received 2 percent and Florida Gov. Charlie Crist received 1 percent. Nine percent indicated that they are undecided. The rest of the straw poll participants wrote in someone else's name.

Haz relax...everyone knows that the straw poll has no real merit. No more than putting up a poll on AK's vs. AR's here. Huckabee last night laughed at it. It is not a swear on blood kind of thing, just an informal vote that has more to do with who just spoke, who is left hanging around the ballroom, etc.

CPAC had Newt, Rush, Wayne LaPierre, Ron Paul, Grover Norquist and on and on speaking to a group that includes a very large number of young college kids just getting started. If those guys don't represent conservative views I don't know who does. Fox News even carried Rush uninterrupted for an hour and half last night. What better group to talk to the young'ns?

The ACU and CPAC are built. They have been around for 30 or 40 years. Its a pipe dream to think that something out of the blue is going to pop up or be started that all of a sudden convinces every last American to vote or think the way you and other conservatives do. In fact more is not merrier. The most splintered and fractured our cause is, the less influence we will have.

I think the point here, is based on:

1.  The people partcipating are motivated by politics, hence active and active in steering the party.
2.  Those people are RINO's.
3.  Those people who would steer the party need not be a RINO.
4.  I'm tired of the RINO's asking us to compromise, it's their turn.
5.  I do understand what you are saying, but the lesser of two evils is still evil and our cause will stay splintered and fractured if true conservatism is left out.
6.  We have been abandoned by the Republican leadership..
7.   If true conservatism is left out, what are you left with?  Why participate in something you don't believe in and strengthen that movement/party?

OK...sorry for the soap box and no disrespect meant.  But I'm still smarting and, really, yet to enjoy the fruits of 4 years of a blooming idiot for President so I haven't healed over yet.  In fact, unless we drink their kool-aide, they'll be picking at those wounds for some time with the real infection to set in some time next year.

You got it right, Ken.

These are the people that control the R party.  They STILL want a RINO and 'compromise'.  They are losers and will remain losers.  They ran McCain and got their collective asses handed to them in an overwhelming defeat in all races, but they want to 'hold the course' and hope that Obama will lose his appeal or that the Dems will do something so stupid that it will drive voters to the R party.

That is a losing strategy.

After all the begging here I held my nose and voted for McCain, NEVER AGAIN!  Run an acceptable candidate or go pound salt.

All Rinos must go or I do.  It is that simple.

OK...everybody stop the heavy breathing and t-h-i-n-k about the facts a bit.

1.  We have the fringe of the left running Congress.
2.  We have the fringe of the left in the White House (puppet though he may be).
3.  We have the fringe left controlling the main stream media.

So, what is it we did to get here?  We should all think about that....but be introspective and not defensive...whatever it is that was supposed to bring success, well, it obviously failed.

INSANITY --  Doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

I agree with you all  that the Republican party is a disaster :( I was just making a point that CPAC is a group of a couple thousand college kids  under 25 mostly. They are OUR activists of the next 20 years. I am very proud that we conservatives even have that many young folks on our side these days.

As for the Repugnant ones, I personally think there needs to be a purge of the party. With Steele as the chairman of the RNC I don't think that will happen from his side (I was happy to hear him though talk about punishing the Maine girls and Spector by not giving them any money for re-election). BUT I think in the house there IS something a brewing. With again young guys like Eric Cantor coming on strong we may have a chance to refocus the Republican party. To get it away from the Spector's and McCain's. Their day is long gone. McCain had a chance and blew it by betraying the principles we know to be true. So kick out the old guys. Get in new blood and HOLD THEIR DAMM FEET TOTHE FIRE. That means we have to raise money and be vocal for those we support. For those we don't, we need to pick another horse and ride him. But money and publicity is the bread and butter of poliitics. That is how things get accomplished. If you have NO money you ain't got a chance in hell. All the whining in the world will get you no where.

Agreed to all.  To zero in on the money statement you made, the arrogance of the RINO's is highlighted by the fact that they had to eliminate most if not all of the phone bank staff when the money dried up due to the RINO's overt and tacit support of illegal immigration.  I like what you are saying.  I just wanted to move the focus over, as a learning aid, for those who may yet have their head up their arse.

You know one of the comments Rush made during his first “address to the nation” pointed to the concept that the Republican party does not need to focus on the conservative “elite”, which essentially are those who are now the centerists that are destroying the conservative movement.  What the party needs to do is get the masses that already have the conservative values needed to make this country great again, the “wal-mart” conservatives I believe is the term he used.   I believe the RNC just assumes that the “wal-mart” crowd is a bunch of left leaning entitlement seekers and they wrongly assume they will just fall in line with the Dems.   What a ridiculous miscalculation!  I do understand the “show me the money” concept, but just paying the working class conservative a little attention would go a long way (yes, I know, I’m probably a little naïve)

Unfortunately, radical change is what is required but radical change is not the “safe” move.  Well, radical change got BHO elected while the RNC sat on their hands trying to figure out a way to out finesse BHO and libs.  I don’t want to loose another major round of elections either, but I’d rather take our chances with a party and candidates that truly stand for and are committed to defending the constitution and the good people of this country.

If you get a chance to hear the speech, it’s worth a listen.  He holds nothing back and its likely that he won’t be getting a big atta’ boy from Michael Steele or John McCain.

TexGun I agree that Rush's talk was a hoot ! Here is a link to it from CSPAN:

All the other speakers, including Wayne LaPierre from the NRA can be found on several pages here:
