PMC 45 acp shooting dirty?
« on: March 02, 2009, 03:34:43 PM »
Has anyone else used PMC recently and found it to be extremely dirty? I've just cleaned some serious gunk out of my 45s this afternoon.

I don't remember it having this issue last time I used it.

My friends and I, (yes I do have friends believe it or not), say that Sellier & Bellot or S&B stood for 'sooty & black'.
I hope it's not that bad.

PMC and Wolf ammo both tend to be very dirty ammo.

Thats part of why Wolf does not function as well in West European and American arms.

Is it just sooty or leaving "chunks" like you would see in a shotgun barrel?  I have shot PMC, and it is sooty, but that doesn't bother me.  I used to complain about some powders being dirty when I meant sooty.  I learned the difference when I got ahold of a powder that left chunks or flakes that would cause feed issues after a couple hundred rounds - not something you want when your trying to shoot a three hundred round match  >:(

The PMC 223 I shot the other day was sooty, But it didn't bother the function of the gun. I clean after every session so it didn't bother me.

I just bought some PMC and didn't notice that it was particularly dirty. I clean every time too, though, so it's not going to be an issue even IF it's dirty.

PMC always has been dirty ammo when I've used it.

Thanks, fellas. I'm applying 'dirty' when I should be saying 'sooty'.  No flakes or particles, but black as night and some glop spots where the soot found some oil or grease.

Certainly did not prevent the pistol from going bang, just made me clean a lot longer.

I have had issues with pmc being dirty, but no malfuctions. It works well in all my guns and seems to me that sometimes new cleaners and oils are the problem. Just dont over lube and the less build up you get.
