Jefferson saw it coming back then
« on: March 05, 2009, 07:47:11 PM »
A friend sent me this:

John Kennedy once said to a assembled group of scholars in the White House  * I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered at the White House - with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."

The quotes below could prove his point

When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe .
Thomas Jefferson

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.
Thomas Jefferson

It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.
Thomas Jefferson

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.
Thomas Jefferson

My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.
Thomas Jefferson

No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.
Thomas Jefferson

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.
Thomas Jefferson

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Thomas Jefferson

Very Interesting Quote:

In light of the present financial crisis, it's  interesting to read what Thomas Jefferson said in 1802:

'I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If theAmerican people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.

Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence. The very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference. - George Washington

Great post.

Some of my favorite T Jefferson quotes.

"A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have."
Thomas Jefferson

"The Constitutions of most of our states (and of the United States) assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed."
Thomas Jefferson.
Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

It's a back door take over of our economy. Do you know how England managed to wind up running Egypt from the 1880's till after WWII ? Egypt went so far into debt to European countries that they could not pay them back. So the Brits shelled Alexandria and landed a force that took over administration of the country. They reorganized the entire Govt. and collected the taxes, half the money was used to operate the country the other half got split up between England, France, Russia, and a couple other countries.
Those dumba$$ dems are putting us in a situation where the IRS may soon be working for the Chinese.

Correction Haz, its socialism at its worst. On a good day socialism robs from the unworthy rich to give to the hard working and oppressed poor. The bailout/handout to AIG robs from the poor to give to the rich. Heckuv'a job Bushie/Obama.

I believe AIG is only worth around $6.5B.   We've thrown away over 8 times that much in trying to bail them out?  What a waste.
