Sad but there are also imposters floating around that you must be careful of. Just like the numerous false "SEALs", "Green Berets" etc. If you have time just go out to the Medal of Honor site link I have in the previous post to check folks out.

It's a federal crime to even OWN a genuine Congressional medal of Honor that was not awarded to you or inherited from the person it was awarded to, it's a crime to buy or sell them as well. a few years ago they got a conviction on a guy under the "Stolen Valor" law for that, what tipped off his accuser was that the Medal he wore was a Civil War Army design and he claimed to have been a Marine. He got quite a bit of jail time as well as fines. He had been a big shot with a veterans organization.
In the military, the lower rank salutes the Senior rank and the Senior returns it, Except if the Junior man is wearing the Medal of Honor, That is saluted first regardless of rank.

True Heroes.  True Americans.

"We Took It."

Spoken like a true Marine.....

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

It may come as a surprise but there are less than 100 living recipients. If you have a chance to meet and speak to one, it is a grace. This from the MOH Society website...

Total Recipients: 3,448
Living Recipients: 98
Double Recipients: 19

http://www.cmohs.org/

A lot fewer than that, in the way we think of it today. In the Civil War, when it first came out, it was thrown around pretty casually, unit awards, awards for commanders etc. I don't know the numbers, but the Medal as we understand it today, is a very exclusive club, less even than 3,448. A very amazing thing, not be forgotten.

1 from the Coast Guard.  Must be an interesting story, not that all of them wouldn't be.
