Can't remember the tribe (Wiki says Paiute), but yes, the Mormons worked in concert with the Indians. IIRC, the Mormons took out the men - healthy and wounded, and left the women and children to the Indians.

A number of the youngest children survived, adopted into Mormon homes. For their young age, they were credible witnesses during the investigation that followed. Only 1 man was ever convicted - the Mormon leader of the attackers. He was executed (shot) in Mountain Meadow.
