Well, after all the wondering, worrying, and all the advice many of you have offered, I finally pulled the trigger (pardon the pun). I bought a 1911 yesterday. I had asked about the Taurus, looked into STI, was looking at lower end pistols, thinking about a slightly used Springfield, because it just doesn't make any sense for me to get a custom or even semi-custom.
I was in my favorite indoor range and had it down to a low end Kimber and a Sig Target. I was looking at the Kimber because, well, it's a Kimber and the finish work was awesome. I was looking at the Sig because it was appealing to me, I liked the features, and it felt better to me than the Kimber.
I went with the Sig because it felt better in my hand and because my first Sig, a Pro 2022 has been flawless.
Took care of the paperwork, checked the lubrication, and went out to the range. Freehanding right out of the box the first two clips were within five inches at fifteen yards. I don't know what that means to shooters, but that's pretty good for me with a strange gun. I'll need to sight it in.
Adjustable night sights, all steel, checkered everything, Nitron finish and dark rosewood grips...I'm in love[/size].
