Sen. Reid working to protect our gun rights? Shocker!

Quote
The 2010 campaign season will be in full bloom much too soon. TV ads for Nevada’s next Senate race began in January in Reno. Those attack ads were from the Republican Senatorial Committee aimed at their No.1 target — Sen. Harry Reid.

Now is the time to nail down some facts. The opposition knows Sen. Reid is far from being a beltway liberal but they will strive to convince voters, especially conservative and rural voters, that Reid is out of touch with Nevada. In that process, they will attempt to handcuff Reid to the administration’s perceived lack of respect for the Second Amendment.

Sen. Reid tossed a big wrench in the machine when he said last week he would oppose any renewal of the poorly named and poorly designed Assault Weapon Ban. This should not surprise Nevada gun owners who have followed Reid’s record supporting our Second Amendment rights. Reid consistently voted no on that gun ban, no in 1994, no in 2004, and now no again following Attorney General Eric Holder’s statement that renewing the ban was a promise of the Obama campaign.

The White House stepped away from Holder’s remarks by referring questions to the Justice Department. As the administration stepped away, Sen. Reid stepped up, announcing he would oppose renewal of the ban.

Reid also voted yes last week to the amendment striking down unwarranted regulation of citizen’s ownership of firearms in their D.C. homes. Those regulations were the equivalent of a poll tax, designed to deny poor and minorities their rights.

Sen. Reid has a long record supporting the Second Amendment and Nevada’s traditions of hunting and shooting. It is a record of action, not campaign talk. That record earned him a donation from the National Rifle Association’s Political Victory Fund in 2004, confounding some friends and all enemies.

U.S. firearm manufacturers said the 2005 Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act was vital to remedy the most serious problem they would ever confront. That problem was recurring nuisance lawsuits when their products were misused to commit crimes. Sen. Reid was an early supporter. Under Reid’s minority leadership the bill received 62 Senate co-sponsors, making it filibuster-proof. It became law. Manufacturers can still be sued for negligence but not for third-party actions.

Most important to Nevada hunters was Reid’s 2005 legislation titled the Reaffirmation of State Regulation of Resident and Nonresident Hunting and Fishing Act. Professional outfitters outside Nevada had sued, convincing a federal court that issuing more game tags to resident hunters than non-residents was not legal on public lands.

Those outfitters were poised to sign up wealthy foreign hunters able to pack in and stay weeks to take out Nevada’s trophy mule deer, elk and desert bighorn. Those animals would not be there to sire the next generation or to reward resident hunters that organized, raised funds and worked hard for many years investing in Nevada habitat restoration and game preservation

Because it was a federal court ruling it became a federal issue. Sen. Reid fixed it. As an experienced parliamentarian he successfully attached the bill to a budget item and it quickly became a law benefiting resident hunters in all Western states. One Washoe sportsman was quoted saying, “Sen. Reid saved hunting in Nevada forever.”

There is no other Senate Democrat ready to step into the leadership that has Sen. Reid’s record of support for our values in Nevada and the West. If shooting or hunting is your sport or if personal rights are your issue, there is no question that having Harry Reid leading the Democrats in D.C. is essential.

It says he won't support the old AWB, nothing about a new one that is "better named and better designed". ;)

Also the rest is mostly about hunting.

Folks, please listen to a professional political scientist. (To quote Sean Connery from the Untouchables "And who would claim to be that who was not")? Harry Reid is THE best hope for heading off an AWB. Not the NRA, not the GOP, Harry Reid. Why? Because he is the senate majority leader. He determines what bills see the light of day and which don't. At the end of the day though, no matter how loyal to the party (very), or how loyal to Obama (juries still out) the one thing he is loyal to is being SENATOR harry Reid, NOT former Senator Harry Reid. I don't know or care what he thinks of the 2A. I do know that he has to win in Nevada. He knows it too. Same with Pelosi. She has to win San Fran or she's out of a job. They will both vote accordingly on 2A issues. I promised on a different thread that I'd share some knowledge with the group. This is it.
The GOP are NOT our friends. The GOP is the friend of the GOP. The same is true with the dems. We CAN NOT afford to vote for the party. We HAVE to vote for the issue. There's an old saying "It don't mean a thing, if ain't got that swing". A classic for a reason. This is doubly true in politics. Why do you think both parties scrambled to court hispanics, while the GOP ignored blacks and the Dems ignored evangelicals? Because the latinos could break either way. Stop drinkig the GOP Kool aid, and understand that having the most powerful man in US senate knowing that he depends on having the votes of a pro-gun state behind him is a better deal than having a junior (hence powerless) GOP freshman and an anti-gun Dem at the helm every damn day, and twice on Sunday. On the other hand the GOP wants to put up a win, and if we get screwed, oh well.
If the 2A rights become purely partisan than we live or die by one party's success, which for most Americans is going to turn on wholly different issues. In issue polls in '08 gun control didn't break the top 30, ever, in any national poll.
Remember the NRA has become a wholly owned subsidiary of the GOP. This is not healthy for us. I don't want to lose gun rights based on economic policy, the military, abortion rights or a thousand other issues. Vote across party lines. Right now, with the Dems in control 1 pro-gun Democrat is worth 5 pro-gun Republicans. Why? Thank Howard Dean. He pioneered a 50 state strategy that said Dems shouldn't write off Red states the way the GOP under Rove wrote off Blue ones. That way lies madness said the Doctor. Instead, go to Red states and be flexible on abortion and guns. Whats the result? 2 dem senators in Montana, 1 in Alaska, 1 in Florida 1 in Virginia, 1 in Pennsylvannia, an up-state based dem in New York and a Majority Leader from Nevada, and a lot more just like them in the House. This is a good thing. Obama can blow off the GOP. He can't blow off his Democratic majority in the Senate based on an issue he's never really seemed to care about other than to mouth the "appropriate" words. We have to put 2A issues first. While I belong the NRA, I also understand who gives LaPierre his seat at the grownup's table and how much he likes it. He drank the Kool-aid. He may be a conservative, WE need to gunowners. Make both parties court us, and reward those reps that do regardless of party label. Otherwise understand that our gun rights depend on the state of the markets , or national security or whatever in the weeks before an election. Just my .02.

Interesting read:

Other than listing LEOs it doesn't specifically mention CCW/RTKBA but is telling.

He's pandering for the mid term elections! I will never trust this man.

What was his quote prior to the surge in Iraq?

"The War is Lost." Not to mention a whole slew of other remarks not supporting our troops or the War on Terror.

Al-Qaeda Quotes Harry Reid's "Hopeless" Statement for Propaganda...

What a disgrace!! The U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, has been quoted word for word by al-Qaeda in Iraq's statement today. Following in the footsteps of Tokyo Rose, Hanoi Jane, we now have this fool. Traitor...

Islamic State Of Iraq: The Cross Worshippers And Their Henchmen Plans Have Collapsed
Apr 25, 2007 By Ubaidah Al-Saif, Jihad Unspun Arabic Source: Al-Fajr Media

As usual, this was followed by a swift visit by the new (American) Defense Minister “Gates” who said, “The American support to the Maliki government is not unlimited”, insinuating that the American administration is impatient with the Maliki government that is incapable of handling the strikes of the Mujahideen. This comes on the heels of an important statement by House Majority Leader Harry Reid who previously said, “The Iraqi war is hopeless and the situation in Iraq is same as it was in Vietnam.”

He opposed John Roberts, with absolute venom, Alito with the same, he is a scumbag!

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

My only fear about your strategy is this.  Much like BHO did before the election, Harry Reid will say ANYTHING that will get him re-elected next year, then promply turn around and bite the hands of the pro-2A people who returned him to the Senate for another 6 years, figuring he has time to overcome the damage before the 2016 election cycle.  If you doubt that possibility, just look at all the about-faces BHO has made since being elected.

1)  No more earmarks - 9000 earmarks in the "stiumulous" package, and now he's saying that earmarks aren't a bad thing
2)  No lobbyists in the White House - we've seen how he stuck to that one.
3)  Complete transparency in his administration - meanwhile we're still waiting to see a birth certificate, college transcripts, etc
4)  Demanding the highest levels of integrity for thos in his administration - nominated 3 felonious tax cheats

The list goes on and on, but you get my point.

Be careful what you wish for when you call for Reid's re-election......you just might get it.

One other thing.  Please repeat after me, ONE MORE TIME:  "The Second Ammendment is NOT about hunting and sport shooting!
I love waking up every morning knowing that Donald Trump is President!!

As far as opposing Roberts, that was too bad; as for Alito, GOOD,the man never met a federal police power he didn't approve of. And Alito is consistent, when they come for our guns, don't look to him for help.  As far as the pandering scumbag bit? What part of politician do you fail to understand? Our job is to make sure they pander to us, cause they damn sure are going to pander to somebody. You can look for the whore with the heart of gold all you want, me, I'll settle for the pro-2A movement being the high bidder. Its a cold, hard world and we have to live in it. Thats why we carry guns.
