Peg, Haz
The "quote" and I will not vouch for authenticity, came from a guy named Omar Bradley. I'm glad you put the disclaimer about how 'it ain't your gun'. Seriously, I always have had a preference for the Black Eagle grips on Ruger SAs.They just look classy, no frills, no BS. The thing about Ruger is that they have never built a "pretty" gun. Not to get back to the whole Ayn Rand thing, but Ruger always has had, in almost every model, a form follows function aesthetic. Build the strongest, most reliable gun of its type, and sooner rather than later, it will start to look pretty. Don't base your design on what has gone before, but on what yours can DO, and if you live up to it, the praise will follow (Are you listening Detroit?). Putting staghorn on a Blackhawk is like pouring syrup on a steak. I used to play in a scottish/irish traditional band. The debate in the group wasn't about how many notes we could add, it was about how many we could take away and still leave the thing's essence intact. (The fact that we had about 8 chords between us having no impact on this discussion at all ;)) I don't get poetical anymore, not being a wild eyed 20 year old Libertarian bagpiper...but the Ruger 3 screw is as close to form dictated perfection as any single action revolver I'v ever seen, Colts included. Don't mess with it! You're not going to make it better, you're just going to embarrass yourself. Somethings should speak for themselves.

Particularly when my roommate (also a piper) and I would practice in the two stairwels of our dorms so that all eight floors could enjoy God's own music. Oddly enough, looking back, I do have at least one good thing to say about DC's gun control laws. ;D

I worked with a guy who piped for a band in CT.  Once during lunch, I was taking a nappy in the warehouse when this god awful moaning and skreeching started and woke me from my restfull beauty sleep.  I rush to my friend Kenny and informed him that I had another place to insert his "Great Drone"!  He promply left the vicinity of my sleepy rug and left, to pipe in the great out-of- doors henceforth and forever more!!!

Q: What do you call "perfect pitch"?

A: Throwing an accordion into a dumpster and it landing on a bagpipe.

Don't get your kilts in a knot....I'M JUST KIDDING.....I actually love to hear a good piper.........just thought I'd bend you a little.   ;D

fightingquaker, we must be thinking of two separate quotes indeed (went back and re-read your post).
I was remembering the quote from the movie 'Patton'. Someone remarked about his 'pearl grips' and he replied that "Only a pimp from a cheap New Orleans whorehouse would carry a pearl-handled pistol". I don't know if he ever said it in real-life or if it was just Hollywood.

Well, here is the upshot.

A buddy of mine wants to trade guns with me.  I have a stainless Single Six with a 5.5 barrel he wants.  He wants to trade a THREE SCREW Single Six (blued) 5.5 for it!!

Works for me!

So I swapped the wood grips on the stainless for the plastic (Ivory) grips on the .357 and VOILĂ€!

I be a happy camper and he is too.  Ain't the world grand! ;D

For $9.95, who can argue? My absolute favorite Blackhawk grips are the cheesy plastic fake stage grips I've got on my 1956-vintage .357 Flat Top. A few years back when I had more money than sense, I had Dave Clements rebuild the gun from the ground up with a eye on supreme accuracy, then had Doug Turnbull redo the finish. It is one of the best (and most beautiful) Blackhawks I've ever handled, and perversely, I shoot the heck out of it. Several people have mentioned that it's practically a crime to have those crappy grips on such a beautiful gun...my reply is that I picked up the Flat-Top at a local gun store...it was a worn old cowboy gun from Wyoming and those were the grips its original owner chose...who am I to question?

I'm going to use that Blackhawk in the Ruger/GUNSITE single action self-defense class we're filming to SG 2010!

Always wanted a set of Roy Fishpaw grips.

Here are a few different styles by different folks...

The top picture is a set of Fishpaw grips on a Ruger. The second is, believe it or not, vintage factory Ruger grips from around the 50's. They are from the link above.
