Rant About Our Education System
« on: August 10, 2007, 10:22:33 PM »
Hello all!! Need to blow off some steam, so here goes. It was back to school day for my 11yr. old daughter today. She is entering her first year in middle school this year. My wife and I were going thru the normal forms filling in the usual info when we get get to the student handbook. Most of the rules I can live with since they do protect and give the impression of safety for the kids. First let me state I'm not saying 6,7 and 8th graders need to be armed at school, although I fell all staff members should be trained and armed at all times. Like that will ever happen! What really got my blood boiling was when my daughter says to me, as I'm looking at the conduct section, Oh yeah dad, my teacher said that we can't defend ourselves against an attack no matter what and that self defence is the same as fighting and we would be punished the same as the attacker. Low and behold there it was in black and white. I totally lost for a moment ( more like all afternoon ) >:(. I instructed my daughter to always defend herself and that her mom, myself and our attorney would deal with the aftermath. No wonder we are becoming a nation of cowards, it's being drilled into our kids everday under our noses at school. A little futher down I came across another little gem that stated the usual no firearms, knives or anything that could be construde as a weapon is prohibited on school property.I lost it a second time as the school supply list required her and every other kid at school to has a metal compass. I thought my Spyderco native has a needle point, this thing could serve better as a backup weapon to my carry piece. What are these people thinking?!?!?! The liberal mindset never fails to amaze me. They also stated that it is a crime under the law for anyone to carry a weapon on school property which under Kentucky law is false. Our law states that any CCW holder can lawfully have a weapon in their vehicle as long as it is not removed from said vehicle. More liberal propaganda aimed at my rights. Bottom line here folks we are being hit from all sides with liberal BS and now our children are being brainwashed in the name of education. We must become more vigilant in our responsabilities as gun owners and parents. As Mr. Bane has stated our voice and numbers do matter to the politicians and can change things if we will speak up. Education is great and I want my daughter to excell the highest level she can, but I want her to be safe and able to ensure her safety as she moves forward, not brainwashed by a liberal agenda. Sorry about spelling, I'm still seeing mostly red. God Bless America, we need it.

This is truly a shame.  As you say, we are becoming a nation of cowards, and our government is leading the way.  They WANT us to be this way.

It is something, isn't it, the liberal mindset. The only way you can change this is to change the school board, get people on the board who have some cajones to stand up to the NEA, the teacher's union.

And yes, our children are being intentionally dumbed down to never question authority, never break the rules, be punished for the slightest little thing, and be good little consumers and worker drones. I moved out of an ultra liberal town - the effort to change would have required a neutron device and I wasn't allowed to own one. Seriously, the biggest problem in that town were the very people who had to put up with this nonsense, and they mostly agreed with the policies of the school - it makes the children "safer" don't you know!

It is the number one engine driving the homeschooling movement, something I would seriously consider if I were in your shoes. One way to know that homeschooling is a viable alternative is the vicious and over the top attacks by the NEA against it.

Good luck JoJo.

Home school all the way..  We do it, my sister does it, and a few others that we know.  In this area there are more kids in home school than in the public school.  Some of it is mindset, some of it is convenience.

We used to foster kids as well, and those have to go to public school.  We had a brother/sister that were in the 25th percentile for their grade level... guess what?  They passed onto the next grades with flying colors.  When I blew a gasket about it, since I had the test scores and such, the answer was "they will learn it in the next grade".. yeah right!!  The other answer was "poor downtrodden children".  They were already showing them how to use the victim mentality.

Reminds me of the guy that sued the school system after he graduated since he had never learned how to read..

Thanks gentelmen!!! We have looked in to home schooling and also a private Christian school that just opened last year. What gets me the most about our school board is that I personally know 4 of it's member's and they hunt and shoot. Both my state rep. and senator and strong supporters of the 2A and have a proven voting record on favor of pro gun, pro self defence issues, but don't seem to want to touch this issue with a ten foot pole. I as well as friends have spoken personally to each of them to try to make much needed changes to our educational system. We have in KY. whats called KERA and basically this reform act took most of the controll of local boards away and gave it to individual schools. The site based committies as they are called, which are made up of 3 teachers, the principal and 3 parents that are out numbered from the start, set nearly all of the schools policies and dicisions as to the way all money is spent. All our boards do is give a general guideline for the SBC's to follow, but under the law the SBC's can add to or take away what ever they want. Our boards don't even have the athourity to hire, fire or discipline any pricipal or teacher. Parents have no recourse for just about anything concerning thier child. I am giving serious thought to a lawsuit as this is taxation without representation >:(.  Ladies and gentlemen of this forum if your state starts talking about education reform and claim it's " for the benefit of your children " don't believe it for a second. It will be a benefit alright. It will be a benefit for the liberal's, not the children. Thanks again for your time.

Anyone who claims some legislation is for the benefit of the children I immediately disbelieve until verified by at least two trustworthy independent sources. So much crap has been thrown our way "for the children" it is sickening. Even the Simpsons make fun of that, for heaven's sake.

Go with the homeschooling or the small private school, and work to overturn KERA. Sounds like the teacher's union got to the legislature. Also, the school board still controls the principal, get his/her sorry behind out and get someone in who will work with the parents. Otherwise, look at what is happening in MA these days - a real nightmare.

As long as we're blaming the government and the liberals - both of whom deserve much blame and scorn - let's not leave out the other guilty (if somewhat less obvious) parties - THE LAWYERS.

Your dead on someguy!!! It was a judge (former LAWYER) that started this whole KERA mess in the first place.

This is why I am in favor of the voucher education system.  The money goes with your kids, whether you choose to home school or take private school.  This will make the public schools more responsive to parental needs.  Then let the capitalist market dictate which school gets the money and which don't.  But of course the teachers union will fight you all the way on this one.  They don't want to lose control!  They are very powerful, so it's an uphill fight.  Bottomline is we shouldn't pay for schooling that is contrary to our beliefs.
