boxotruth a FUN test site for the group
« on: March 19, 2009, 05:51:15 AM »
Hi!
I've been meaning to post this one awhile and kept forgetting. The site is www.theboxotruth.com. It is well worth some time and some thought. Essentially the premise is that a former leo, who is obviously a frustrated engineer with too much time on his hands, considers classic gun dilemnas, and comes up with ways to test them. I am reminded of the cooking show "good eats" with a side order of Letterman's "will it float sketch".
The guys work is solid. The box o'truth in question is a box of water jugs lined up. How far will x caliber penetrate? What if there's drywall, or brick? How bullet proff is that old buick? Will .410 buck penetrate far enough?(One reason I don't own the judge). How bullet proof is bullet proof glass? Its not video, but rather a series of stills with step by step explanations of whats going on.
I find it to be a very educational and fun time waster. Hope you enjoy.

Sorry my bad! Fixed it. And it is cool ain't it? Don't forget the education zone either. Lots of useful tips like how to clean after using corrosive ammo.

There is a wealth of info on BOT, I've only made a dent in it.  Reminds me of a video I used to own where some fools test calibers and try in vain to make a gas tank explode by shooting it.  They get so frustrated that they light the tank on fire just to watch it blow up.

Thought everyone knew of the site?
Most sobering info was the ineffectiveness of a car to stop bullets.

You mean propping open your car door and shooting your snubby through the open window frame isn't effective???    ::)  hollywierd

Even if a car door doesn't stop bullets, I think I would rather have it in front of me than not.
35 plus years ago I by chance viewed a get away car that was used by a BG after he executed two Michigan State Troopers, Rampy and Stark.  He stole their weapons and may have actully used them to kill the troopers.   Another cop arrived on scene as the the murderer fled and emptied his revolver at the fleeing car.  I don't know what caliber the revolver was, but only one bullet penetrated.  The car was a Ford Maverick and most of the shots glanced off the sloping trunk deck and rear window.  The one bullet that penetrated hit the rear verticle portion of the trunk lid and went through the trunk, back seat, front seat, and lodged in the dash.  The killers girlfried was in the front seat also and the bullet passed between where they were seated.  I remember the incident when it happened and one of my co workers later in life had gone through the MSP academy and worked with the two officers at one time.
