Now thats Gangsta!

From Bane's Blog:

I'm 100% on that, which is why I'm enthused at yet another of Henning's interests, the newly formed American Zoot Shooters Association.

AZSA is a multi-gun sport in which participants dress in 1920s costumes and compete against the clock engaging targets for the best possible score. Zoot Shooters must use firearms that are correct for the time surrounding Prohibition. Costumes may be of any character type reflecting the era (i.e. gangster, law enforcement, flapper, bootlegger, politician, etc.).

Oh come on, Tactical Tommys, lighten up...it's supposed to be fun! Shuck those 5.11s, the tactical vests, Oakley shades and boots, and that long-billed baseball cap with the SureFire logo and light up a nice Thompson!

Besides, while you can argue all you want about the efficacy of a Single Action Army as a self-defense tool, you gotta give it up for 1911 Super .38s, .45 Thompsons and that every-popular Browning A5/Remington Model 11.

Here is their website. Go check it out just for the video on the front page:

At the risk of sounding like a fanboy: Oh my God! When did this start, and where do I sign up? Seriousley, I thought cowboy action shooting was cool when I discovered it, but just not my scene gun wise. But this, well the twenties produced some the best music in American history, great clothes (who here hasn't wished they could get away with a fedora at least once) completely screwed up violent politics,  a setting where a cigar and a single malt was considered a proper lunch, and oh yeah...guns. As someone who's spilled a lot ink on drug war politics, I've done lot research on prohibition too.I just got rid of great grandads smith in .32 because the cylinder was out of time and it wasn't worth fixing (at least not till today) I still have the parker though, and maybe my flirting with AKs and ARs is over, 'cause well the BAR is a man's gun and 30.06 is as common as dirt.
If someone wants to sponsor me on a Tommygun, I'll be sure to stencil your name on my fedora. I think maybe an eyepatch to go as Big Bill Haywood of the IWW. Curious though, if the Danny Boy scene from Millers crossing could be safetly reproduced? ;D All I need now is a Chris Craft teak speed boat and if Haz wants to sign up we could be the '20s era Crockett and Tubbs, when the smuggling down here in South Florida was done right and real men didn't wear pastel (note to Haz, I get to be Crockett). I hope this does develop into somethig.

Guns and zoot suits? That would be very cool to see. Really like this idea.

I've really been obsessing over Tommy guns the last few days...and this has put me over the top! ;D Every time I go to my local gun shop to look at AR platform rifles...I can't help but be distracted by this gorgeous Thompson 1927A1 they have there. But, alas...no money. :'(
If the women don't find you handsome...they should at least find you handy.
