I think something to look for if your buying any automatic (eager to hear input on this!) is how well the case is supported above the feed ramp. There's quite a bit on the net about auto. handguns popping in the shooters hands from cases splitting in this area. Depending on the shop your at, you
may be allowed to take the barrel out of the gun and place a round in it while its apart before you buy. Otherwise I guess internet research may be your only source of info.. LOTS of brands have suffered "Kabooms", not picking on Kel tec!
