Holster attributes for first tactical class

Michael, Rob and Michael:

I have a .40 cal Smith M&P FS. I have had it some time but now want to take a beginning tactical class and need a strong side OWB holster. I realize you cannot rec name brands but could you offer some things to look for in a holster for this use?

I notice you usually are using a straight draw holster.

Good for you for going to get some training!

I have no problem recommending brands:

Take a loot at Blade-Tech and Blackhawk.... Personally, those are the two holsters I use most often. I like the BH SERPA for OWB and I have used several BT OWB that were great and I prefer their IWB offerings.
If you are looking for a training holster on more of a budget, G-Code makes some great options as well.

After you train, post a report!

I agree with Rob on the Blackhawk Serpa. I have not used Blade tech so I cannot comment. I utilize the Blackhawk Serpa Holster for my Smith and Wesson M&P 9c, Glock 17 and Glock 21. I have used Bianchi, Galco, Don Hume, Fobus, Uncle Mike's, etc. over the 20 plus years of carrying a handgun and the Blackhawk Serpa gives me the most reliability and security I need. I would have one for every handgun that I own but unfortunately they do not make the Serpa for every type of gun.
Just my two bits here.  ;)

+1 on the SERPA.
I've been using on with my G27 exclusively, daily, for well over a year now. I like it a lot. I holster and unholster several times per day with no noticeable wear to either the gun or the holster.

Yep! I am doing an LE charity event on the 4th and a one day Combat Focus Fundamentals in PSL on the 5th!
