glock 26 vs Glock 36
« on: April 02, 2009, 02:39:03 PM »
I am giving some thought to changing my carry package from a Bond derringer for deep conceal and a Glock 19 for when I can untuck my shirt. To no one's surprise, I am leaning VERY strongly towards one of those cheap pastic immatations. I am however, torn between the .45 caliber slimmer (sort of) 36 or the 9mm 26. I have never shot either and probably won't be able to before I buy. Any thoughts, comments, experiences with either gun would be appreciated.

10+1 rounds of 9mm in a Glock 26 is more then adequate for concealed carry. I own, carry, and absolutely love a 26. It is my carry gun about 90% of the time.

The 26 is a little shorter in length then 36, so that is nice..... but weight and width are both about the same on each model, so that is a push.

I guess it all comes down to if you are biased to having 6 rds of .45 over 10 rds of 9mm.

Glock is a great choice for personal defense -- just ask The Pincus! They go bang every time and they are light and easy to carry.

I'm in the market for a 26 also. I picked up my 19 a couple of days ago, after my obligatory 10 day wait. Love it! I've shot the 26, 27 and the 36 and every Glock other than the .380's. Between your 2 options, I'd probably pick the 26. It almost handles like shooting a larger gun, but with the concealment benefits that come with the smaller size. The 27 is pretty great too. It just hops around a little more. I'm sure you'll be happy with either choice.

I won't have many opportunities to carry in my state, until some laws get changed, but I'm applying for a UT CCW, so I can carry while visiting neighboring states. I'll have to spend some money in those places to show my appreciation.

I second that thought. I own a 17 and a 26 and I would have to say that I prefer to shoot the 26. It is every bit as accurate as the 17, and it fits my hand a little better (almost negates the grip angle issue that most people complain about).

Oooh FQ, would not want to be in your shoes to make that type of decision. I love my .45 but more rounds could come in handy with a 9mm. Good luck

9mm is a lot cheaper to shoot. 45 vs. 9 arguments being what they are, both make a hole about the size of a finger and are weak substitutes for a long gun. smaller and faster vs. larger and slower are near equal when they are compared to 12 gauge. I already had a Glock 22 and 23. The 21SF and 30SF were on sale, but I opted for the 19, because I could afford to practice more with it and get real good with it.

I was just going to add that you can use you 19 mag as a reload in the 26 but tom chimed in with the 33 rounder which is even better!

I have heard many horror stories about how Glock 36's won't run. I have shot three seperate ones and all were owned by LEO's that would not keep non-working guns around. The recoil was a little sharp but recoil is entirely in the mind of the shooter. My wife hates 9mm +P but likes .45LC go figure. I think that the 36 is a good choice and would not feel underarmed with one. I like the idea of a slim gun that you will always carry over a blockier gun that you might leave in the car. Just my two cents.

The 26 is the way to go. Spare mags for the 36 have to be for the 36. You can use the 33 rounders in the 26 as well as mags for the 19 and it is an accurate gun. If you lean toward the 36 you might as well choose the 30.
