Night Sites Question
« on: April 04, 2009, 08:20:18 PM »
On the average are there any night sight makers that are better than others? I'm getting a set of Truglo Tritium on my Glock that I'm buying. Any thoughts? And how long do they usually last? Lastly how bright are night sights suppose to be?

I don't know what brand is good or bad but they should last 10 years. It has to be pretty dark to see the glow on mine.

Ask about the half life, that is the time at which the sights will begin to dim, usually 10 yrs or so.

I have a very basic question about this. I as a left handed left eye dominant shooter have always shot pistols right handed because of the controls on the left side of th gun.As a result I have shot instinctive. Both eyes open, point and click, just like a shot gun. This has given good enough groups, 4"-7" at 25 yds, 4"-5" at 7 yds. The trouble is that as I approach my 40th birthday my eye sight is going south. Just noting the sights position in peripheral vision is fast becoming a thing of the past with my glasses. My choice now is to spring for a good set of bright tritium sights or just go with the laser. Yes the the laser is about 70% more, but would I be better off sans the hundred plus for the tritium, and dropping the $250 -$350 for a laser?

While I've already passed 40, I've been lucky enough to only need an occasional prescription change for contacts. However, at our range, many of those with poor eyesight have been switching to the Truglo sights with a combination of tritium and fiber optics. They all swear by them and say that they're pretty helpful even during daytime outdoor matches. I know some retired cops that are switching to them too. I think a couple of my Glocks may get them.

FQ and garand4life - I've been very happy with the Truglo tritiums. the fiber optic is not visible to the target, and they are the best of both worlds for me. Nice and bright (yellow rear, green front) in light, and the tritium lights them up well in dim/no light.  Current limitation is they are not available for all guns. Available for Glocks, XD, H&K USP (not tac or compact), Sigs, Kimber.

Anti: I think some of you gentleman would choose to apply a gun shaped remedy to any problem or potential problem that presented itself? Your reverance (sic) for firearms is maintained with an almost religious zeal. The mind boggles! it really does...

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.
