Yes, I have to give them back...or pay for them. And I won't lie to you...I do usually get a good price...although not always. Perversely, Sig gives me a really crappy buyout, and I have to wait forever for my T&E guns. Am still waiting for the 556 I was going to get in April!!! LOL!
My inclination, if I'm in the bucks, is to add the gun to my collection, because sooner or later I'm going to need it for a comparison or another test or to video.
Also — and this is a SUPREME rationalization!!! — I feel like because I am a professional in the field, I SHOULD be spending a certain amount of money on hardware, because it is how I keep myself sharp and on top of the field. One of my competitors makes it a point of saying that he always returns — and never buys guns — that's because he once told me that for the life of him he didn't see what I liked so much about guns and shooting! I love guns and shooting, and the only way you learn more is by shooting stuff.
I just purchased a Walther P-1, the alloy frame version of the WW2 P-38, because I haven't shot one in years and the price was right. I have a deposit on a semiauto version of a Czech Skorpion .32 ACP subgun that hopefully is coming into the country. I'm always in the market for older S&W N-frame or Ruger Flat-top revolvers....
I love what I do, and when I'm bored, I go to the range!
