Reasons.... Logic.... Explanations for why one is a better choice than the other outside of opinion would be much appreciated. I know which one I like more.

Anyone looked at them both and know significant reasons why one is superior?

With a 376 c.i. engine and 10.4:1 compression ratio, the Camaro hits 400hp easily from the get-go....... and with a few mods would be around 500 to 550 without a lot of effort.
What's not to like there....plus it just looks mean as hell from the front.

Gotta vote for the Camaro simply for the reason that my blood is actually Chevrolet orange.     ;)

Both cars are cool, but IMO, they just don't stir the soul like....say....a Yenko Camaro from yesteryear.........

Rob, you're right about the Mustangs. They don't make them like they did just 15 to 20 years ago.
The 5.0's were stout little powerhouses (a good friend had an '86). They were great cars, especially when they were in the rear view mirror of my 327 powered Chevy S-10.

Peg,

So if we forget the mods issue, which engine has a better track record the L99 or the 6.1l hemi ?  I'm assuming the latter is less tested. do you know?

Ping,

That's not a great vote of confidence for Challenger! Any direct info on problems ? (I'm aware of the Cylinder 7 problem with the manuals... but understand that it has been addressed).

As for the jeep, I've got that end covered..... It might be time for a sports car!

Don't know much about the 'new' Hemi engines as I've never been much of a MOPAR fan.

From everything I've ever read over Chevy's track record for engines, by the time they are put into production vehicles, they have been thoroughly tested. I don't know if they followed their old standard practice of flogging the heck out of the engine platform for a few years in the Corvette before putting it in another vehicle (like they did with the LT1, LS1, etc.). Just like the LS1 in my '03 pickup, it was in the 'Vette several years before they put them into other cars and trucks.

Like I said, I don't know if they did that this time or if it is all new just for the Camaro.

Should be interesting with a 6-speed auto transmission too.....400 hp and 25 mpg.

Answered my own question:

Camaro SS buyers who wish not shift their own tranny will get the only truly new engine in the Camaro lineup: the L99. This mill's similarities with the other Camaro V-8 are extensive: for example, its block, cylinder heads, crankshaft, and connecting rods-along with the intake manifold and throttle body-are all shared with the LS3. That said, there are some exciting additions that make the L99 best thought of as a "higher-tech" LS3; namely, Active Fuel Management and Variable Valve Timing.

Sorry Rob, never been a sportscar kind of guy since I have been in the USA. Owned 2 Fiats, a Mercedes Benz and a BMW 320 while I live in Italy. I prefer the BMW. Fast and was only put aside by a Ferrari. Owned by Fiat by the way.

I'm a truck guy and will probably drive F150s until I die,but the Ram is solid. When I was a young hooligan though, my best friend had a camaro, early 80's can't remember the vintage but what that car had and what the new ones seem to have is more torque than the charger. It kept the rear end under control even during teenage stupidity. I will date myself and let you take the 5th as to whether you're old enough to  recognize the lyrics.. ("Bitchin' camaro, bitchin' camaro, doughnuts on my lawn! ;D ;D).Don't mess with a classic dude; for a white trash (of which I am a proud member) muscle car its charger, camaro or mustang. Me, I vote camaro.

Personally, the Mustang 5.0 was a pale imitation of the GT500KR. Ford, Mustang, Shelby - winning combination.

Of course, a GT500KR right now is only marginally more affordable than a Shelby Daytona Coupe or a GT40.

Trust a Sig guy to take a thread on Chevys and Dodges and make it about Fords!

Challenger!  Way more character, and at least a little time in production...   You wont be plagued with new model bugs causing breakdowns all the time :(.  The camaro isnt bad looking in convertable form, hard top body lines are way to busy and conflicting.
