TAURUS PT 745 PRO .45ACPOkay...number one, I apologize for the lack of porn. The wife left MY digital camera at HER mother's house, and I will not have it back until Easter Sunday. Women.
Last week I purchased a Taurus PT 745 PRO sub-compact .45ACP from a neighbor. The pistol came with a case, 3 six-round magazines, 200 rounds of WW White Box, 50 rounds of Remington 230gr JHP .45ACP ammo, and a garbage bin Uncle Mike's clip-on IWB holster. I paid $200.00 cash for all of it.
My first move was to make an appropriate snap-on IWB holster out of leather, and I "billed" the cost of the holster, $45.00, to the overall cost of the gun, bringing it to a total of $245.00.
I took the pistol to my home range Sunday, and shot 100 rounds of the WW 230gr FMJ ammo. I was shooting for "function" and "reliability" rather than accuracy, though I did some accuracy testing too. I was pleased...not one single hiccup. Accuracy was what I would call "pretty freakin' good". It shot to point-of-aim at 10 yards, and grouped well inside 3" at that distance firing off hand in rapid fire. Recoil was apparent, but not unpleasant.
When I slowed down and shot from a rested position on my shooting bench at a measured 15 yards, groups measured 2 1/2" and about an inch lower than point-of-aim. No sweat there...no verticle stringing, and one inch low? Yeah, I will take that. Reliability was, again, 100%.
100 rounds gobbled up, spat out, holes made in target, manly grunts of approval all the way around.
This morning, I took the little bugger back out to the range with 100 rounds of my home-rolled 230gr LSWC ammo, that does 850fps from a 4" Colt Commander Barrel. Not sissy ammo, but UBER accurate. HOWEVER, I have found this ammo NOT TO FUNCTION reliably in anything other than my 70 Series Combat Commander, and obviously my .45ACP wheelguns. Lo and behold...the Taurus chewed it up and spit it out, and turned in some NICE groups...1 1/4" at ten yards, 2 1/2" at fifteen yards, and a dead 3 1/4" at twenty five yards. 100 % reliable. I was impressed.
Finally, I shot the 50-round box of Remington ammo I got with it. As I have a metric shitload of the Remington 230gr JHP ammo in my safe, I shot up the stuff provided, as I didn't know when it was purchased, and it was an odd-lot of ammo, and not the same lot as the stuff I already had. Accuracy was decent, 2" at 15 yards, and 100% reliable. This gun is boring...it works, and puts rounds where they need to go. I have nothing to complain about...well almost.
The trigger has a LONG take-up, but a decent break at aut 6-6/12 estimated pounds. The trigger take-up and reset are my only complaints...but I am a trigger snob, so I am too harsh a judge of most triggers.
The gun has a tumb-safety for cocked and locked carry, and the Heinie Straight Eight sights are some of the best avaiable on a carry gun.
Would I carry this pistol and trust it to save my bacon? Yep. Absolutely. In fact...I have been packing it today. Will it replace my beloved Glocks? Oh HELL no...but, I will definitely use it as a loaner for freinds who need one.
For a grand total of $245.00. I robbed my neighbor.
