Pelosi pledges compromise on assault weapons ban

The ball is in Congress's court to craft a compromise in reinstating regulations on assault weapons, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) acknowledged Tuesday.

During an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America," Pelosi said that the Congress will work to find some middle ground between the previous ban, which expired in 2004, and the precedent laid by the Supreme Court in a ruling enumerating more concrete gunowners' rights last term.

"We have to find some level of compromise," Pelosi said, citing 53 victims of gun violence nationwide in less than a month. "And we have to rid the debate of the misconceptions people have about what gun safety means."

"Yes, it is," the Speaker said when asked if the ball is in Congress's court now that Democrats control the White House. "And we are just going to have to work together to come to some resolution."

Pelosi indicated that new regulations might entail registration and prohibitions on transporting some firearms across state lines.

The Speaker also expressed displeasure at the attachment of a gun rights provision to legislation that would grant Washington, D.C. a voting member of Congress.

"Right now, we have the debate in Congress over the District of Columbia wanting a vote on the floor of the House, something we all want. That's a civil rights issue," she said, pledging to find "middle ground" on the issue. "And, yet, they want to put a gun…bill, attach that to that. I don't — I don't think that that should be the price to pay to have a vote on the floor of the House."

What compromise? How about instead, this compromise, repealing all gun laws that violate the 2nd amendment. Oh I almost forgot in a compromise the enemy, I mean the other side gets something. How about this? Nancy and her fellow anti-gun congress critters don't get put  into stocks and have rotten tomatoes and what not thrown at them.

There is NO WAY I trust her, Chucky, Reid, Feinstien, Holder, and any other member of Congress. Plus the annointed BHO!

This will be a test to the "Blue Dog Dems who signed "A Letter to the Pres." regarding gun laws in this country.

Let's see if they have the testicular fortitude to hold up the the Wicked Witch of the West....

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

Why is it in any gun law 'compromise', law abiding gun owners always lose something and the antis always gain something? This is not the definition of compromise.  Why is it the rights set down indelibly and clearly in the 2nd amendment are open for limitation while gossamer 'rights' extrapolated and interpreted by lawyers are constantly expanding?

Here's my compromise: vote for any more gun control laws and I don't vote for you. Vote them down, and I vote you up.
Anti: I think some of you gentleman would choose to apply a gun shaped remedy to any problem or potential problem that presented itself? Your reverance (sic) for firearms is maintained with an almost religious zeal. The mind boggles! it really does...

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.

I have a compromise for her. Let's not pass any new laws and try enforcing laws that already exist, including immigration and truth in sentencing. I'll bet we'll see a dramatic decrease in crime.

The only compromise we should consider is how much of our rights we TAKE BACK in one move....Anything other than that is nothing but a sellout.....

Gun laws come after regular Joes like us, they never go after the criminals that buy illegal firearms. I have never purchased an illegal firearm on the street, yet the laws come after me all the time. The worst thing for me is I live in California so I'm proper screwed. The cherry on top is these losers killing at random that make us look like crazy heat packing loons. Laws need to go after criminals not ME! >:(
